Summary
The main objective of REPLICATE project is the development and validation in three lighthouse cities (San Sebastián - Spain, Florence – Italy and Bristol – UK) of a comprehensive and sustainable City Business Model to enhance the transition process to a smart city in the areas of the energy efficiency, sustainable mobility and ICT/Infrastructure. This will accelerate the deployment of innovative technologies, organizational and economic solutions to significantly increase resource and energy efficiency improve the sustainability of urban transport and drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions in urban areas.
REPLICATE project aims to increase the quality of life for citizens across Europe by demonstrating the impact of innovative technologies used to co-create smart city services with citizens, and prove the optimal process for replicating successes within cities and across cities.
The Business Models that are being tested through large scale demonstrators at the three cities are approached with an integrated planning through a co-productive vision, involving citizens and cities’ stakeholders, providing integrated viable solutions to existing challenges in urban areas and to procure sustainable services. Sustainability of the solutions is fostered in three areas: economic and environmental and finally, fostering transparency in the public management.
In addition, the Model features the replicability of the solutions and their scale up in the entire city and in follower cities, particularly in three follower cities (Essen – Germany, Laussane - Switzerland and Nilüfer-Turkey) that are involved in the project and therefore, have access to know-how and results achieved on the project so they can apply the developed model. At the moment, there are 2 observer cities, Guanzhou (China) and Bogota (Colombia).
Work performed
Work performed during the period 1st August 2018 -31st July 2019:
-WP1- MANAGEMENT
Management of the project finishing the implementations and starting monitoring.
- WP2 -STRATEGIC PLANNING AND BUSINESS MODELS:
Work with the LH Cities to conduct workshops and interviews to address the core process of demonstrating the ’learning from the pilots’ initial business plans, which will be analysed with a view to establishing their viability beyond SCC1 funding.
- WP3 SAN SEBASTIAN
All the implementations have been correctly managed and finished being the Demand Side Platform deployment the only solution that will continue during the next months. Data from the implemented solutions is being integrated in the Smart City Platform and Open Data and Linked Open Data is being further improved. Monitoring, management, maintenance and improvement of the implementations is an ongoing work along the project while impacts and replicability of interventions fully implemented is been analysed.
- WP4 FLORENCE
The actions which compose the pilot have been deployed, tested and revised if needed according to the targets and monitoring methodology, and updated versions have been released. Only the Energy efficiency interventions at Le Piagge will continue during the next year, while all the other actions have been already finalized but all are constantly monitored in the different phases; the scaling up and replicability has been analyzed.
- WP5 BRISTOL
The first 6 months of the period were spent with the final preparations for deployment of interventions for the Bristol pilot. Since January the teams have been working to ensure that the data created by the interventions is flowing efficiently and that activity towards the other work packages are delivered on time.Work has been focused on getting the Demand Side Response Trial (now re named Energy Management Trial) ready to start for Autumn.
- WP6 INTEGRATED INFRASTRUCTURES – ICT PLATFORM
The 3 pilots have gathered detailed information about the Smart City platform (SCP) and the smart services. Pillots have defined SCP strategy .Definition of an ICT platform architecture for the area of data governance and data monetization. Analysis of synergies among the pilots in the area of smart lighting and applicability of high-speed mobile networks in the 3 LH cities. Definition of the Smart City platform impact analysis strategy and the baseline KPIs.
- WP7 CROSS CUTTING ACTIVITIES ANALYSIS AND SCALE UP STUDY IN THE 3 CITIES
The framework conditions of the implementations in the 3 pilots have been updated and the final evaluation of the actions from the technical and the management point of view realised as well as the assessment of the LH cities replication potential, carried out highlighting strengths and weaknesses, discussing lessons learnt, proposing optimizations and adaptations and working out management models for next extension phase.
- WP8 REPLICATION
The work has been focused on the stakeholders’ network diagnose of the FW Cities and the promotion of a sharing participative environment organizing networking activities among LH cities and FW cities through the ‘City-to-City-Learning’ Programme. 4 Webinars has been organized in this programme framework, during this period.
- WP9 EXPLOTATION OF RESULTS – INDUSTRIAL BUSINESS PLANS
The work has been focused on the business opportunity validation, which tries to identify and validate business opportunities in order to confirm their suitability and usefulness. Interviews have been done in each lighthouse city with the industrial partners.
- WP10 MONITORING
During this period, the monitoring programmes of the three Lighthouse cities have been applied and implemented and the results of the monitoring have been compiled. Final results
REPLICATE project principal impact is to develop and validate a sustainable City Business Model to be replicated in other cities; deploying wide-scale, innovative and integrated solutions in the energy, transport and ICTs. General impacts expected on the projects are:
• To reach thermal energy consumption savings in the districts (buildings) involved, that have seen estimated up to 56% in relation to existing situation in building retrofitting and up to 35 % in District Heating, validating cost effective technical solutions in energy efficiency sector
• To implement sustainable e-mobility measures integrating EVs, recharging systems and Information Mobility Systems
• To develop new sustainable and cost-effective services to citizens and Administrations providing integrated infrastructures that improve municipal resources through: a new ICT model for Smart City, development of an intelligent lighting system and deployment of high speed mobile wireless network
