Today, the drone market is characterized by a large number of producers of drones that do not take into account the specific needs of the end-customers. Opposite the manufacturers are the end-users of whom the majority does neither possess the adequate knowledge of the rules and regulations of operating drones nor the adequate operational skills. In addition, acquiring drones, sensors and obtain the adequate training and approval has become very costly and is a cost many civilian organisations are not able to afford. The overall objective and expected outcome of the project have been to develop a service that bridges this gap between the manufactures and end-users by providing a service operating drones, and by this, removing the risk, burden and cost of applying drones into their activities.
As part of this project, a feasibility study and a business plan were developed. Studies of the suppliers, competitors, customers as well as the development of a SWOT analysis, risk assessment, implementation plan and financial plan to size the market and estimate the potential income and expenditure have been developed.
One of the important milestones we have reached during the project period is obtaining a dispensation to operate Within Visual Line of Sight on a commercial basis in Denmark by The Danish Civil Aviation Authorities. Another and even more important milestone we have reached is a dispensation to operate Beyond Visual Line of Sight in Danish Airspace.
We will focus on operating Beyond Visual Line of Sight, which requires high investment, knowledge and expertise in aviation that currently is not available in the market. Integra will target 1) public research institutes, private companies and public governmental agencies requesting photography, film or other data and 2) private and public entities requesting a tailor made service, where Integra operates the drone. For the traditional tasks to be performed (e.g. land survey, photographic tasks, etc.), drones can provide competitive cost compared to use of manned aircraft. The competitive advantages, and in some cases even the feasibility of such tasks, will increase with the remoteness of the area and where more complicated data collection (sensor equipment) is required.
Based on the activities undertaken, we have concluded that the service has potential to be developed to the level of market maturity, but requires additional funding in view of commercialization and will therefore apply for phase 2 support
