School event 3
Advanced methods and tools for multi-physics and multi-level design and analysis of automotive electrical actuation, combined with Personal development and team-working training are topics of the third school event under INTERACT. The one-week event will be organized as a three-course S&T module, combined with practical exercises and a workshop on complementary training.
Advanced design, modelling and analysis methods and tools for automotive electrical actuation (TM3). The goal of the S&T module is to provide deeper understanding regarding the different advanced analytical and numerical modelling aspects that the INTERACT’s fellows are concerned with: material modelling for magnetic and structural analysis, losses in EMs, magnetic force computation, Model Order Reduction (MOR) techniques, system-level modelling, etc. The courses will comprise theoretical parts and illustrations by means of the software used by the fellows. Responsible: ULB.
Personal development and team working (TM4). The Workshop will provide powerful thinking tools and step-by-step processes for designing executable action plans for strategies at any level. Good knowledge and practice of these techniques enables more efficient work of the fellows during and after completion of the initial research training. The goal of this school is to: (i) train the fellows in management skills, including personal time management, task assignment handling, prioritisation, schedule management, team and meeting leadership etc., and (ii) introduce and practice project management techniques, including project definition and set-up, controlling, risk management and reporting. The FAC will encourage using techniques learned here for regular progress reviews. A special session will provide all the necessary details, guidelines, evaluation criteria and measures in order to teach the young researchers how to write successful UE Framework Programs proposals. Responsible: UTCN.

School event 1
The first school event is organized in three introductory modules preparing the fellows to (i) understand the context of their work, (ii) become aware of the existing technologies and trends in green transportation, and (iii) understand the principles of high-level and ethical research work.
Sustainable development and mobility (TM5). The module is divided into two components. The first of these provides an overview of the subject of sustainable development in a way that is relevant to engineers, but deals with issues wider than just technical. The course will address sustainability concepts, values and change processes with a quantitative approach that provides key tools in sustainability methods and metrics. The second component focuses on the issues, challenges and opportunities presented by the global automotive industry’s drive toward sustainable mobility. The subject will be addressed from many different perspectives such as the economic context and regulations, vehicles hybridization and electrification, biofuels, mobility of tomorrow. Responsible: UTCN.
Green vehicle architectures and technologies (TM3). The topics that will be covered are: overview of and introduction to green fuels; energy conversion systems on green vehicles; batteries and charging infrastructure; low-emissions automotive auxiliaries; green vehicles in European legislation; standardization and green vehicles. Responsible: ICPE.
Research methodology and research ethics (TM4). The goal of this school event is to introduce fellows to ethical research methodology at the highest quality standards and broaden the understanding of: (i) finding and establishing an independent research topic, including literature review, innovation process, hypothesis based research; (ii) result dissemination through papers and presentations, including specific training on presentation skills (complementary to the local training of each beneficiary); (iii) understand ethical considerations in research, peer review processes and requirements (including new concepts, such as open reviews); (iv) scientific misconduct and its consequences. Responsible: ULB.

School event 2
The second school event, organized into two modules, provides attendees with advanced knowledge in special issues concerning the development of sustainable automotive electrical applications and teaches them to prepare high-level scientific articles and presentations.
Special issues in advanced technologies sustainable automotive electrical actuation (TM3). During two days the module will give to the participants in three courses a rigorous and in-depth knowledge of the key component technologies in EMs and power electronics, and their integration into advanced systems. New technologies, materials and emerging topologies for more-efficient EMs as well as new trends in semiconductors and special topologies for power converters will be presented and discussed. Finally, systems architectures, requirements analysis, design trade-offs, and reliability through case studies and mathematical techniques will be included in a system integration course. The module will include a research assignment to be completed within three months following the school event. Responsible: BROSE.
Scientific and research writing and presentation (TM5). The aim of this school module is to provide support and guidance to fellows for scientific and research writing and presentation. The following aspects will be integrated in a one-day course: (i) writing articles and conference papers; (ii) preparing and presenting a poster; (iii) presenting to an audience, at a conference or a workshop or in front of a small group. The module will be implemented as a workshop, including writing and presentation exercises. Responsible: ULB.
