SUMMARY
INTERMIN will create a self-sustainable long-term lasting international network of training centres for professionals.The network will map skills and knowledge in the EU and the third countries, identify key knowledge gaps and emerging needs, develop roadmap for improving skills and knowledge, as well as establish common training programmes in the raw materials sectors. In line with the EU\'s strategy for international co-operation in research and innovation (COM(2012)497), the consortium will seek international collaboration, fostering and exploring synergies with the relevant EU Member States initiatives
PROJECT SCOPE
1. Develop common metrics and reference points for quality assurance and recognition of training; 2. Develop a comprehensive competency model for employment across the raw materials sector; 3. Introduce an international qualification framework for technical and vocational training programmes;4. Create a conceptual framework for the development of joint educational training programmes based on present and future requirements by employers and 5 Create and launch a joint international training programme by a merger of competences and scope of existing training programmes;
PROJECT TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION & IMPLEMENTATION
INTERMIN will tackle the shortage of a raw materials’ skilled workforce in Europe by advancing a holistic approach, taking into consideration: 1) current and future employers’ needs (assuming different contexts and technological scenarios) and available skills provision; 2) the dynamic balance of demand and educational supply in different world regions; and 3) the alignment of training and industry cyclicity. The methodological approach combines collection of primary data (surveys, interviews) and secondary data (desk research and benchmarking), to advance of a new paradigm for optimized interaction and collaboration between training centres, employers and professionals.The paradigm of INTERMIN will integrate an international qualifications framework (based on the European Qualifications Framework) and a competency model, both tailored for the raw materials sector.
IMPACT
INTERMIN sets the foundations for the establishment of a common language for education and training along the raw materials sector, increasing the mobility of professionals and strengthening the EU competence and expertise in the field of the primary and secondary raw materials.
INTERMIN will play a key role in boosting international cooperation with industry, government, academia, NGOs and other stakeholders from key raw materials producing countries and regions, enhancing the possibility for new cross-sectorial innovation in Europe.
INTERMIN will have substantial impact on improving the availability of a qualified and skilled workforce leading to higher competitiveness of the EU raw materials industry, thus strengthening the EU’s capacity to influence raw materials supply on a global scale.
INTERMIN creates a long-lasting international network of technical and vocational training centres for raw materials’ professionals, hence establishing and maintaining strong and sustainable relationships with the leading training institutions from advanced mining countries.
INTERMIN will contribute to the implementation of the Raw Materials Initiative and achieving the objectives of the EIP on Raw Materials.
CONTRIBUTION TO EIP RAW MATERIALS TARGETS
In particular it will make direct contributions to establishing or facilitating:
• “A Network of Research, Education and Training Centres on sustainable raw materials management organized as a Knowledge and Innovation Community;
• “A Pro-active international co-operation strategy of the EU at bilateral and multilateral level,promoting synergies with countries such as the US, Japan, Australia, Canada, Latin America and African Union across the different areas covered by the EIP.”

Work performed

WP1.Results so far: production of a skills catalogue,
WP2: a) a first internal session gathered 8 researchers, engineers and experts in different fields of Raw Materials (primary ressources, circular economy, exploration, European priorities, etc.) in order to brainstorm on the main factors and actors, which lead to 16 drivers listed, and among these 4 of them were considered as a priority. b) based on this first rough approach, a second workshop was organised with partners during the Madrid meeting on 30/01/2019 in order to refine the identified drivers and set level of importance and degree of uncertainty for each of them. Discussion was organised in groups to sort drivers. c) Hypotheses fiches for each of the 8 drivers are documented between May and August 2019.
WP3:International Qualification Framework for the Raw Materials Sector, advanced an international sectoral qualifications framework for the raw materials sector (SQF-RM).
WP4: Developing an international network of training centres
WP5: Communication and dissemination. Developing the communication strategy, 5.2. Dissemination support services, 5.3. Fostering communication, 5.4. Networking Map. Results achieved: The webpage has been improved and updated adding new possibilities: Library section – with appropriate documents related to the interests of INTERMIN audiences. News section – with updates provided by the partners and to the interest of the audiences. Presentations – relevant presentations are now made available for the general public under presentations section on the newsroom.
Fostering communication. This is work in progress. Networking Map. This is work in progress, lasting from the beginning to the end of the project (M1-M36).
WP6 : Project Management. Communication and cooperation with the EC (for all partners); Administrative and final quality control of deliverables, milestones and other reports & timely submission of deliverables on the Participant Portal (WP implementation);General support and assistance to the project’s WP leaders and other partners (when fulfilling their tasks); Timely completion of financial/budgetary/time management and contract matters; Timely submission of periodic reports and internal intermediate consortium project planning, cost statements, etc

Final results

The project has greatly surpassed the expected benefits to date, as the set of deliverables produced (skills catalogue and first round of international training organizations included in the web survey) are extremely important to develop the future portal. Thus two of the main impacts expected: INTERMIN sets the foundations for the establishment of a common language for education and training along the raw materials sector, increasing the mobility of professionals and strengthening the EU competence and expertise in the field of the primary and secondary raw materials and INTERMIN will play a key role in boosting international cooperation with industry, government, academia, NGOs and other stakeholders from key raw materials producing countries and regions, enhancing the possibility for new cross-sectorial innovation in Europe have been partially achieved already. In the communicatio side of the project, the achievements have been extraordinary as the INTERMIN project has been present in the main international conferences and we have been invisted to many more.
