EnTech Scientific B.V. was founded in 2010 with one vision: To develop a revolutionary new method for material analysis. In the period 2010 – 2015 the HEART (High Energy Alarm Resolution Technology) system has been developed which is based on EnTech’s patented X-Ray Echo material analysis method. With the availability of HEART, EnTech is now ready for the next phase: the development of a revolutionary new product for field test & deployment on the airport.
The overall goal of this initiative is the exploitation of HEART, using novel patented X-Ray Echo Methodology, for various promising security domains. HEART will be the basis for a new generation of X-Ray based screening equipment. It allows for scanning, detecting and characterizing all types of dangerous or specific materials as well as fluids, behind barriers (hidden, packaged) and for in-line/in-process applications.
Specific objectives in the H2020-SMEINST Phase 1 feasibility study proposal were exploration of various business cases in the airport security domain, evaluation of the requirements for the associated applications and the ‘translation’ into a detailed investable business proposition.
The following work has been performed in the feasibility study:
- Identification of various potential business cases, based on the HEART concept, in the airport security domain. Product concepts have been identified in the areas of carry-on baggage, hold (checked-in) baggage, liquid/bottle screening, cargo screening and customs (baggage/parcels);
- Market research: An analysis of the airport security market, major players, segmentation, product pricing and key differentiators;
- Financial modelling, to determine the level of funding needed in various business scenarios;
- Elaboration of a detailed business plan.
Based on all research, we have identified that for the first product we should position HEART as a core module for hold baggage Explosive Detection Systems (EDS).
EnTech will develop and field test two to three units for validation on the airport in the coming two years and will start integration of it’s HEART module into the systems of the first EDS supplier(s) by 2018. In 10 years, we expect the HEART platform to be one of the three to five preferred technologies in (L)EDS, and to penetrate the security domain with at least 10% in various end-systems (“HEART insideâ€).
