Analysis of when and where integration of the technology would be most valuable for business and at the energy system level

Identify when and where LAES, combined with cold warehouse stores, should seek to be introduced to deliver maximum value to the operators and system
Focus on analysis of four countries to represent diversity in energy systems, food distribution systems and geographic spread. How other countries may be similar to, or different from, these case studies will be described

Report of the potential benefits of CryoHub for grid balancing

Six (6) refrigerated warehouses or food factories will be used to generate case studies and cross-case comparisons which will identify the variability of potential benefits of CryoHub for grid balancing. Other benefits such as operational resilience, security, meeting carbon targets, will also be determined. The case studies will also identify barriers to implementation, including policy barriers. National differences will be highlighted.

Report on refrigerated food facility mapping

A survey will be developed to obtain information on large European refrigerated warehouses and food factories. The survey will be designed to be simple to complete in less than 5 minutes.
The survey will collect information on:
1. Location of refrigerated warehouse or food factory.
2. Approximate size of refrigerated facilities.
3. The average and peak electrical input power to the facility.
4. Waste heat generation from the facility.
5. Whether renewable energy resources are currently installed on site. If so, their maximum capacity.
6. Whether RES could potentially be located on site.
The survey will be electronic and translated from English into French, German, Spanish, Italian and Bulgarian.
Information collected will be collated and displayed graphically using maps to show where in Europe the LAES could be directly applied currently.
