EU environmental targets aims at reducing dependence on fossil fuels as a resource, and solar power is a renewable energy that can be utilised to generate electricity with minimal impact on the environment. However, very often the installation of photovoltaic (PV) or solar thermal (ST) collectors is not allowed on listed building, that are regulated by local environmental constraints or restrictions to preserve their architectural-artistic value. Only projects that meet strict aesthetic requirements and a low visual impact obtain the authorisation and standard PV and ST panels do not meet these criteria, so most of residential buildings cannot use PV and ST to supply electricity and hot water to their houses. The goal of the project is the commercialisation of an innovative roof covering that produces electrical and/or thermal energy exploiting the solar power. The roof tile seamlessly integrates with architectural and chromatic appearance of every type of roof. The roof covering is as easy to install as traditional roofing and neither needs special expertise nor additional truss to be mounted. The action is focused on the development of the innovative hybrid photovoltaic/thermal tile. The technology enables to produce further lines of building integrated products: Building-Integrated photovoltaic panels (BI-PV), and building-integrated solar thermal (BI-ST).
The main objectives to successfully reach commercialization have been identified. The product development and industrialisation plan is aimed at reducing the cost of industrial production to propose on the market the three lines of products at a price comparable to standard non-integrated solar panels.
Energyntegration has achieved the business and technical feasibility objectives defined in the Phase 1 proposal, by defining the minimum viable product, identifying the industrialisation plan, and drafting the plan of investment. Furthermore the company has conducted a comprehensive analysis of the market segments; identified the competition, the entry barriers and proper counter actions, prepared the commercialisation plan and calculated 5 years financial projections. The go-to-market strategy has been identified: Energyntegration will penetrate the market with the building integrated PV tiles to create brand awareness and then propose to the market of households their top gamma and innovative product, the hybrid photovoltaic/thermal integrated tile.
Currently, listed buildings, namely those houses located in areas with special environmental or historical/cultural interest, are not allowed to install solar panels if deemed to affect the aesthetic of the neighbourhood. The building integrated solar tiles proposed by Energyntegration will enable a wider segment of customers to install solar panels in the roof coverings without affecting the aesthetic appearance of the residential house. The outcome of the project can be quantified as additional MW of renewable energy sources installed, corresponding to tons of carbon dioxide emission avoided.
