The project’s aim is to stimulate collaboration between Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives, foster the take up of IoT in Europe and support the development and growth of IoT ecosystems based on open technologies and platforms. This requires strategic and operational synchronisation and alignment through frequent, multi-directional exchanges between the various activities under the IoT Focus Areas (FAs). It also requires cross fertilisation of the various IoT Large Scale Pilots (LSPs) for technological and validation issues of common interest across the different application domains and use cases.
CREATE-IoT address the following:
• Launch a common internet-based forum in which LSPs and other IoT stakeholders can access information and participate in ongoing activities, in areas as diverse as the debate on privacy, common standards and protocols or cascade funding;
• Map the pilot architecture approaches, as well as the ecosystem stakeholders, across all the FAs to identify areas of common interest in which co-ordination will be of particular benefit;
• Establish mechanisms for exchanging best practices, fast-track learning and sharing of lessons-learned on a technological and business level;
• Encourage and co-ordinate activities that stimulate innovation, creativity and adoption including the combination of ICT and Arts as well as user-centric and bottom-up methodologies;
• Enhance the provision of SMEs (including start-ups and other early-stage organisations) and developer access to the LSPs, through to the sharing of cascade funding and the support to the development of Software Development Kits (SDKs) and similar initiatives;
• Define common Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across the LSP’s that can be used to measure design, testing and validation taking into account the possibility of an iterative, rather than lineal, development and deployment process;
• Gather insights that can contribute to pre-normative activities and future policy development in the context of the Digital Agenda and promoting European IoT thought leadership.
CREATE-IoT is providing the framework for support and coordination for the IoT FA in order to foster the take up of IoT in Europe and to enable the emergence of IoT ecosystems supported by open technologies and platforms. Through the coordination of complementary activities structured around LSPs, the project will establish a structure for supporting the implementation of coordination bodies that will ensure an efficient interplay of the various elements of the IoT FA and liaise with relevant initiatives at EU (JTIs, PPPs, FAs, EPIs), Member States and at the international level to create societal and market acceptance of IoT applications.
The CREATE-IoT is providing the framework for support and coordination for the IoT FA in order to foster the take up of IoT in Europe and to enable the emergence of IoT ecosystems supported by open technologies and platforms and through the coordination of complementary activities structured around LSPs. The CREATE-IoT ensures the framework environment and provides tools to ensure consistency and linkages between the pilots and complement them by addressing ethics and privacy, trust and security, respect for the scarcity and vulnerability of human attention, validation and certification, standards and interoperability, user acceptability and control, liability and sustainability. The project implements a coordination body that will ensure an efficient interplay of the various elements of the IoT-FA and liaise with relevant initiatives at EU, Member States and international levels.
