Summary

Radioactive raditation is a part of every day human life and crucial part of human evolution. However, it can be a health hazard due mutations it casues in cells and can cause cancer if recieved in high dose. Therefore, doses of radioactivity humans are exposed to ought to be controlled and level of radioactivity in environment must be monitored.

Problem Sensinite aims to solve is the fact that current radiation detectors cannot be used at circumstances, environments or locations where it would be the most suitable for efficient detection of radioactive material. To be able to do that requires combining and modifying several various kinds of existing technologies. This approach consequently adds complexity, weight, size and price of the end device monitoring and controlling the radioactive radiation levels.

The importance to solve the problem for society is enormous. Financial implications if for example a dirty bomb containing radioactive material explodes in city environment are anywhere between 14 to 240 billion EUR. Every cancer case puts burden on health system and costs hundred of thousands euros and therefore it is crucial to be able to avoid cancer. In addition to financial implications, it must taken account the implications on humans\' personal lifes when a serious illness hits a person. Prevention of the cases is invaluable.

The overall objective of Sensinite is to develop and make radioactive radiation detectors that can be used more widely and extensively helping to detect radiation where ever it exists so that it can be collected and removed safely.

Work performed

During the execution of the project Sensinite approached several customer prospects, stakeholders, research companies/institututions and experienced private professionals in the industry to interview and gain better understanding of the market, technologies, companies in the industry, value chain, pricing and other relevant information for business planning. The company also presented prototypes and test results to gain valuable feedback, especially from clients prospects, to gain first hand feedback and evaluation of the feasibility of the technology and its performance. The feasibility report was drawn and the business plan was updated. The results of the project will be used when preparing application for SME phase 2 funding. There is no information to disseminate at this point.

Final results

The project resulted an updated business plan with commercialisation project plan including steps to market. Potential impacts of the commercialistion project include some 40 new workplaces and altogether 15 to 20 million euro revenue during the introductionary period by 2023. However, the most important potential impact of the consequential project and commercialisation of the products will be facilitation of detecting radiation where ever it exists so that it can be collected and removed safely and thus keeping public and societies safe from harm.
