\"European cities can become living lab for the demonstration of Fuel cell and hydrogen technologies, starting from their use in niche, but everyday applications such as temporary gensets that are used in construction sites, music festivals and temporary events. Leveraging EU excellent knowledge from consortium partners in FC application for automotive and telecom backup power solutions, EVERYWH2ERE project will integrate already demonstrated robust PEMFC stacks and low weight intrinsecally safe pressurized hydrogen technologies into easy to install, easy to transport FC based transportable gensets. 8 FC containered “plug and playâ€gensets will be realized and tested through a pan-European demonstration campaign in a demonstration to market approach. The prototypes will be tested in construction sites, music festivals and urban public events all around Europe, demonstrating their flexibility and their. enlarged lifetime. Demonstration results will be capitalized towards the redaction of three replicability studies for the use of the gensets in new contexts (emergency and reconstruction sites, ships cold ironing in harbors, mining industrial sites) and for the definition of a commercial roadmap and suitable business model for the complete marketability of the gensets within 2025. A detailed logistic and environmental analysis will be performed in order to study the complete techno-economic viability of the gensets and ensure the solution will be environmentally sustainable. In this sense a decision support tool will be realized to support end-users in future replicability. According to the crucial role of cities to promote through policies and dedicated regulatory framework the spreading of FC gensets, local authorities will be involved in the project since its beginning. A strong dissemination and communication campaign will be conducted particularly during \"\"demonstration events\"\" (more than 25 festivals involved) in order to increase public audience awareness about FCH technologies.\"
\"EVERYWH2ERE is a 60 months project. At M12, the project is progressing smoothly and 17 deliverables have been submitted in the period M1-M12 (only D1.7 and D3.1 still pending due to activity re-distribution related to SHSA withdrawal and consortium re-assessment).
All the project goals for the period M1-12 have been successfully achieved except for the definition of the final EVERYWH2ERE genset layout and BoP. This activity has been interrupted because of the withdrawal of one of the two integration partner, SHSA on ##/ ## /2018 which unfortunately slowed the achievement of the overall objective of the action, i.e. the realization and demonstration of the EVERYWH2ERE gensets. Nevertheless a preliminary “two boxes†structure has been agreed by the consortium. (Fig.1)
It can be noticed that all WPs have already started and WP1 is not yet terminated because of the previously mentioned delay.
An effective and proper Project Communication has been performed under the guidance of FHA, RINA-C, D1 and ICLEI ES through website, social media, flyers and posters, dedicated event.
Stakeholders engagement has been kicked off among potential end-users/demosites (ENVI, D1), industrial stakeholders (RINA-C, FHA) and cities (ICLEI ES)
As foreseen, two successful launching events have been organized, one in Cologne in August 2018 and one in Brussels in January 2019. Various dissemination activities have been already put in place (i.e. publication of Press Releases in relevant media and websites, participation to relevant national events by RINA-C and FHA, active social campaign, participation to music festival related events by D1 etc.).
In M1-12 activities concurring to the achievement of project main objective were:
1. Definition of a preliminary layout of the genset and choice of a two boxes approach. Preliminary identification of gensets’ delivery and procurement plan (discussion interrupted because of SHSA withdrawal) (WP1)
2. Specification of the 25 kW FC SubSystem (PCS) and of hydrogen tanks (MAHY) (WP2-WP3)
3. Development and prototype of the first hydrogen tanks (MAHY) (WP2-WP3)
4. Definition of some demonstration requirements in terms of technical performances, regulatory needs and acceptable costs according to already engaged demosites and intercepted stakeholders (ENVI, FHA, D1, RINA-C - WP4)
5. Re-definition of construction sites requisites and location (ACC - WP1 - WP4)
6. Definition of the value chains and start of the data collection from genset manufacturers and operators in order to carry out a screening LCA to support decision making in other WPs(VTT - WP5)
7. Definition of contractual models to be proposed to engaged demosites (ENVI, RINA-C - WP6)
8. Robust dissemination campaign to engage music festivals and temporary events organizers as well as cities to the project. Identification of film shooting as a potential further interested sector for EVERYWH2ERE gensets demonstration (FHA, RINA-C - WP7) – Two launching events already organised for music festival sector and to launch city oriented activities also in collaboration with FCH JU City and Regions initiative (D1, ICLEI ES)
12. Preliminary identification of project Key Exploitable Results (KERs) (WP7)
13. Definition of Data Management Plan and Ethics Issues for handling project research data (WP8 – WP9)\"
As a “demonstration to market projectâ€, all objectives and impact to be achieved by EVERYWH2ERE project are currently not yet neither partially achieved.
Nevertheless it is worthy to highlight that thanks to a robust dissemination, communication and stakeholders’ engagement campaign, EVERYWH2ERE project has been properly promoted among industrial stakeholders and potential demonstrator, also having the opportunity to identify a new potential market sector for FC Gensets: movie shooting sector. Movie shooting sector is indeed now very keen to reduce the environmental impact of movie sets.
EVERYWH2ERE has successfully organized two launching events dedicated one to cities and one to music festivals, collecting several expression of interest and having the opportunity to dialogue about the potential of FC gensets with relevant policy maker (DG ENER, HYDROGEN EUROPE, DG CLIMA) also in the framework of FCH JU City and Regions initiative
