 Project objective

SMART SlowFlow is a hydro-kinetics micro hydropower solution, developed and patented by Smart Hydro Power and able to reach unparalleled LCOE (20 c€/kWh) and maintenance cost (<0.25 c€/kWh). The hydro-turbine is integrated in the micro grid smart systems produced and already commercialized by Smart Hydro Power in the rural electrification sector (40 grids already sold in Peru, Colombia, Nigeria, Germany, etc.), a booming market set to reach around $23 billion in 2021: by developing the turbine and achieving the cost of production target, SHP is able to propose to the market at an unparalleled price the 100% renewable energy based, reliable and easy to be installed micro-grid for remote areas. The technology has been already validated thanks to the first 280 W prototype, attesting the unparalleled performance in terms of cut-in speed (0.6 m/s), reliability and easiness in transportation and installation. The first patent on turbine design is going to be registered. A preliminary End-Users benefits assessment attests that the simple pay-back time for micro-grid installation is < 2.5 years. Now, to reach the market, the Minimum Viable Product has to be selected in terms of power capacity, the full-integrated micro-grid has to be designed and manufactured, a prototypal manufacturing line (capacity = 1000 units/year) designed and fulfilled. During Phase 1 project, Smart Hydro Power will develop a detailed technical and business feasibility analysis, focused on the supply chain optimization for cost of production reduction, the industrial production design and cost quantification, the customers validation, the analysis of the achievable markets and the refinement of the Business Model to be implemented in the Market Entry phase.
