 Project objective

In the era of ecommerce, the number of small shipments has grown exponentially, leading to a new paradigm in Logistics. Traditional solutions for optimisation of freight volume are now insufficient and on-line retailers demand innovative systems that assist them to select the best available packaging for each item, and are effective for any item nature, geometry and shape.

Within this background, our enterprise has identified an excellent market opportunity for an innovative solution that assists shippers in the selection of best available packaging volume, for each type of item. Since shipping costs account for as much as 8%-11% of gross e-commerce sales, a solution that can reduce in an average 5% the volume of the shipped parcels, has an enormous potential for high growth.

OPVOL is an innovative dimensional scanning technology for irregular shapes, with unprecedented versatility to characterise items of any geometry, made of any material and in any colour. OPVOL offers an excellent precision (<3mm) with a high measurement speed (<20s) to determine the volume of items. OPVOL implements advance software solutions based on machine learning for automation of the selection of best available packaging volume, for a given item geometry and volume as determined in the dimensional measurement.

This project will enable our enterprise to reach a total revenue above 26 million € and 90 new direct jobs by 2024, corresponding to OPVOL technology installed in near 60 logistic centres worldwide.
