Summary

Companies, regardless of their size and their activities, are increasingly generating data. They use it to run their business but they also acquire data externally - whether publicly available data or data coming directly from other companies - as internal data generally do not suffice. Businesses increasingly realize that they can also generate new revenue by monetizing their own data to interested third parties. The European Commission has recognized the data market as the future of the global economy, as part of its flagship policy for the Digital Single Market. However, at present, there is no comprehensive platform dedicated to data transactions, suited to all types of data and all types of businesses.
Dawex is the first global data marketplace where companies from all industries can meet, buy and sell data directly and securely. Acting as a trusted third party, Dawex does not buy nor sell data itself; companies retain full control over the transactions they conduct on the marketplace. With more than 9,000 companies from 20+ business sectors already on-boarded the marketplace, Dawex is facilitating cross border data flow and makes data exchange accessible and secure for all economic stakeholders.
During the 2 years of this H2020 project, Dawex will deploy a Europe-wide, cross-border data marketplace, compliant with EU laws and regulations and respecting the highest security standards, which will unlock the potential of data and enable European companies to create value through data exchange. Dawex will contribute to the rise of the data markets, and, so on, to the EUâ€™s goal of â€œmaking the EUâ€™s single market fit for the digital age.
Dawex will not only develop its Global Data Marketplace, but also deploy its Data Exchange Platform technology in multiple verticals with the ambition to create an ecosystems of platforms around the Global Data Marketplace. It will support the development of the EU Data Economy by enabling companies and organisations to embrace data exchange practices at different level of maturity with tailored solutions.

Work performed

During the first year of the project, Dawex has started to deploy its solutions to European countries, while strengthening its communication and commercial capabilities. Thanks to the work conducted to provide our clients with the most advanced, complete and easy-to-use platform, Dawex has been able to reach major milestones:

- Closed a Series A round of 5,5Mâ‚¬ in March 2019 with worldwide industry investors. (Dawex founders keep the full control over Dawex strategy ):
-- Amadeus (Europe): Amadeus powers travel. The company builds the critical solutions that help airlines and airports, hotels and railways, search engines, travel agencies, tour operators and other travel players to run their operations and improve the travel experience, billions of times a year, all over the world.
-- Itochu (Japan): Active in 63 countries, ITOCHU is one of the leading sogo shosha, engaging in domestic trading, import/export, and overseas trading of various products such as textile, machinery, metals, minerals, energy, chemicals, food, general products, realty, information and communications technology, and finance
-- Caisse des DÃ©pÃ´ts (Europe): Caisse des DÃ©pÃ´ts is a public long-term investor group serving the general interest and economic development of local areas. It combines five areas of expertise: pensions and professional training, asset management, monitoring subsidiaries and strategic shareholdings, business financing and Banque des Territoires.
-- Bouygues Construction (Europe): Bouygues Construction is a global player in construction, with operations in more than 80 countries. It designs, builds and operates projects in the sectors of building, infrastructure and industry. The company is a responsible and committed leader in sustainable construction
-- Colas (Europe): The Colas Group is a world leader in the construction and maintenance of transport infrastructure. Its mission is to design, promote and build infrastructure solutions for sustainable mobility. Its three main business segments are Roads, its core business, Materials and Railways.

- Doubled the number of employees
- Made the Global Data Marketplace growth
- Deployed new EU countries in the first year of the project
- Commercialise the Data Exchange Platform (DEP)
- Launched a new capability with the Decentralized Data Exchange Platform built on blockchain capabilities
- Joined new public innovative projects (EU-funded CyberSec4Europe project, French call for tenders winned by a Consortium gathering Dawex)
- Developed Dawex brand awareness and visibility across Europe
- Reached thousands of readers for Dawex content
- Launched several Press Releases through European medias
- Built strong relations with market stakeholders (investors, policy makers, worldwide analysts) & contract new partnerships
- Improved the user experience on the Dawex Global Data Marketplace with new functionalities and features

Final results

Dawex intends, before the end of the project, to increase the growth of the Global Data Marketplace and to reach a critical mass of companies to deploy new European countries, to strengthen its influence and brand awareness, and to create an ecosystem of Data Exchange Platforms around its Global Data Marketplace.
In parallel, we see a strong acceleration of the market: 2 new players has entered the market : AWS Data Exchange, and Snowflake, 2 majors US companies. Dawex will have to speed up its development to stay ahead competition, and strengthen the position of the Europe in the data exchange market.
Strong results have already been achieved in Y1, as explained in the description of the â€œWork performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far.
