Explanation of the work carried out by the beneficiaries and Overview of the progress
Objectives
MERSCIN (Mersin Science Night) aims to familiarize the general public with the work of researchers and scientists, towards a better recognition of research amongst ordinary people and to actively encourage young people to consider science as a profession. The specific objectives of the project are:
o To present striking results of the work of researchers that may have a direct or indirect impact on society for better recognition of science by the general public;
o To bring researchers and members of the public together, whilst also involving figures of the highest public authorities and major business corporations of Mersin towards societal and economic development;
o To attract children and youth to science through a rich mix of stimulating interactive activities incorporating fun, competition, creativity and education as well as through personal interactions with active researchers as role models.
o To convey to the public the importance of protecting the environment based on local scientific studies.
o Introduction of cultural heritage concept; formation of an awareness regarding the cultural heritage in Turkey and EU.
o The awareness-forming campaign is to establish an awareness for the culture, languages, aims and goals of EU, and its endeavours towards the progression of science – through the publicity of EU via the Night and Dissemination Activities

o 28676 persons participated in the activities as a visitor. It is estimated that around 300.000 local residents of Mersin were accessed. merscin.org Website was visited by 17.000 persons. Local news number is 38, national news number is 9 and international news number is 3.

o International (2 Continents – 5 Countries – 15 Researchers), National (11 Universities - 12 Institution – 58 Researchers), Local (2 Universities – 30 Institution – 190 Researchers and Experts, 40 Schools – 85 Students (Secondary school - High school)- 40 Teachers), 146 Workshops – 40 Project Exhibition Mind/Intelligence Games Competition, Simulations, Science Shows – Deep Space Observation via a Telescope, Sports Games – Paragliding Show and more.
o The activity took place in a single venue; the number of attended people are, 20.313 people on 27 September, 22.963 people during 28-29 September 2019 following days after European Researcher’s Night, 4th International Mersin Science Festival within the scope of TUBITAK 4007 was carried out. 43.276 people have attended in total.

European corners has been placed in both Researcher\'s Night activities;
o Located at the entrance of the CNR-Expo;
o Alan Craig who is Head of Sector for MSCA COFUND & NIGHT at European Commission Research Executive Agency (REA) made an opening speech to start the event. (2019)
o Presence of at least 2 permanent employees from the Turkish National Agency (TUBITAK NATIONAL CONTACT POINT Personnel) and Mersin University Foreign Relations Department to answer the questions of the participant about EU policies and programmes;
o Brochures, booklets and information papers which were sent from Brussels was hand out to all visitors.

Have you heard about European Researches Night? How did you hear of it? How do you find information process? ), Information on the number of attendees, typology of attendees (age, gender, occupation, background, participation in activities, ..), rating of individual actions and the overall event, number of hits on a website, number of friends and followers on social networks, number of promotional items displayed and media; Semi-structured questionnaires for qualitative data: (Do you find European Researches Night useful? What was the most attractive activity during the night? What is your opinion about night? What is your opinion about science? What is your opinion on researchers and their job? Will you attend a similar activity in the future?)Samples: 10.000 feedbacks expected

Overview of the results
- A total of 2,000 people participated in the measurement and evaluation survey conducted within the scope of Merscin “Science Festival but 1712 people were considered valid.
