Summary

The high population growth ratio is the primary driving factor of the precision agriculture market, which encourages farmers to implement efficient and advanced agriculture techniques to improve crop yield. The introduction of precision farming within farmers schemes is being ballasted by their reluctance to novel approaches usually beyond their understanding. Also, crop-technicians, who act as advisors of farmers, are orphaned from software solutions to optimize their productivity by analysing and monitoring several factors at once.

We solve the situation with CERES, a software designed specifically for technicians to manage several farms and a wide range of factors influencing the supply chain allowing them to lower their prices (up to 35%) and bring precision farming to farmers. On top of that, CERES will reduce expenditure in fertilization (up to 70%), water consumption (up to 30%) and phytosanitary products (up to 30%) and ensures the delivery of sustainability indexes, traceability and prediction tools through block chain and machine learning technologies.

Work performed

The work covers the objectives for Phase 1 proposal, which includes:
Technical feasibility: the results proves the correct integration of the different modules of the software and considerations to reach TRL9.
Freedom to Operate analysed a number of patents which have been identified. Non-significant findings jeopardize the project, and we indicate the protection measures to be taken by CERES. Also normative and regulations to be fulfilled are analysed.
Commercial feasibility includes the identification of the main client: crop technician, as well as key stakeholders. The focused markets are EU, South America and the USA.
Financial feasibility and business plan include sales forecast, EBITDA estimations and market risks identification. With an initial estimation of 1.2M€ from Phase 2, indicates a ROI of 2.3. Critical risks (technical and commercial) are analysed.

Final results

11 potential direct competitors have been identified. None of the existing ones provides a complete feature set such as CERES, at a competitive price. Competitors are mainly focused to holdings management, but does not include forecast models, artificial intelligence for complex decision, image processing and BlockChain assurance for product tracking (most competitors offer parts of these features, but separately and partially). The studied potential impact includes social market situation and trends.
