EXCITUS A.S. is a Norwegian high-tech medical devices company founded in 2014. Our goal is to develop disruptive pre-hospital medical devices for global distribution with the focus on the ease of use for the end-user. Over the last 5 years, we have been developing FS-UNIT, a disruptive portable suction unit designed to be operated by pre-hospital Emergency Medical Services who have been seeking for decades for lighter and more compact portable suction units, easier to use in any spatial direction in the most difficult situations. We have engaged in the development of FS-UNIT international stakeholders and feasible clients who are willing to incorporate our device in their pre-hospital services. The overall aim of the project is to take FS-UNIT to TRL9 and to market launch by 2022.
In this Feasibility Study, we have analyzed the implementation of FS-UNIT. We have carried out research and analyses concerning various fields: 1) technical study, 2) Commercial study, 3) Financial assessment.
Among the objectives achieved we can highlight: design specifications for the required future improvements; a deeper knowledge of the market structure and needs, the competitors within it and our positioning; the potential of our FS-UNIT, both technical and commercial; the business plan to be followed to reach the market in the next 24months.
FS-UNIT unique patented compact design combines a permanent part with a consumable one (pump and canister) in a single device. This allows for the first time one-time use of all component in contact with patient air/fluids in suction operations. It is easy and intuitive to use (single hand operation) and works in any spatial orientation. It saves time (only takes 10 seconds to attach a new consumable) and money (20% reduction over lifecycle). FS-UNIT will directly imply an increase in lives saved in the pre-hospital medical care. It will allow effective airway management of any patient in any emergency situation directly in the field.
