Corrosion is an extremely expensive and dangerous problem. The annual global cost of corrosion is €2.2 trillion, equivalent to roughly 3.4% of the world\'s gross domestic product.
Anticorrosion control practices can result in huge savings of up to 35% of the cost of corrosion. However, many of the compounds routinely used for decades to fight corrosion are now known to be carcinogenic to humans and toxic to the environment.
Graphene has been recently proposed as an anticorrosion alternative to current toxic solutions owing to its remarkable properties, namely, resistance and thinness.
This feasibility study defines a feasible roadmap in all technical, commercial and financial aspects to achieve Graphene Water –our highly pure graphene aqueous dispersion– industrialization. The main activities are: product optimisation, study of the deposition method and scaling up production. We estimate an investment of €2.57M, with €1.8 million from the Accelerator Pilot SME Instrument funds and with a ROI of 24.84 at 8 years.
TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY. We have carried out: a SToA analysis; description and specifications of the mature system; technical plan to reach maturity: outlining the optimisation and industrialisation; risk analysis and contingency plan.
EXAMINE THE MARKET. Including analysis of the market, end-users, competitors, drivers and barriers.
IPR AND LEGAL REQUIREMENTS. We have assessed the regulatory roadmap and our FtO. We have also devised an IPR strategy
FINANCIAL FEASIBILITY. Funding needs validation; cost structure; 5 years business projections considering 2 sales scenarios. Even in the conservative scenario, we will generate a big turnover, profit and new job positions.
BUSINESS PLAN. Including business model and commercial strategy.
The FS shows the novelty of our innovation and the great benefits that would bring to different industries affected by corrosion.
Currently there are no effective methods to produce graphene designed for anticorrosion applications at an industrial scale. Carbon Waters will i) help getting rid of toxic substances in anticorrosion paintings, ii) provide an efficient anticorrosion solution, and iv) have a huge impact on our company.
