 Project objective

The barrier resistance and wettability of papers are commonly controlled by the application of petroleum- based derivatives such as polyethylene, waxes and/or fluor- derivatives as standard coatings for the industry. While surface hydrophobicity is improved by employing these polymers, they have become disfavoured due to poor recyclability limitations, and environmental concerns on generated waste with lack of biodegradation. Contrary to popular opinion, most coffee cups and similar disposables still aren’t recyclable! With all the attention over the past decade on recycling and doing right by the environment, the lowly coffee cup appears to have been missed in the push to make every form of packaging reusable or recyclable. Roughly 200 billion paper cups are used around the world every year, but none of those currently in use can be recycled without incurring prohibitive costs or greatly diminishing the At ORLOGA, we have developed an off-line machine for the smooth and versatile industrial implementation of a protective coating for paper/cardboard with 100% resistance to water and fully recyclable. BioProtect Paper project is a simple, rapid, and efficient hydrophobization of cellulose fibers through their reaction with gaseous TCMS at mild conditions (solvent-free room temperature no drying required). The off-line machine can be implemented at different stages of the value chain. Hence, paper mills, paper processors or even stand-alone business cases can be generated to transform standard jumbo rolls into waterproof jumbo rolls to deliver added value for the final paper processors. Th final products, being paper cups, specialty papers or other paper/cardboard packaging materials will continue with the recyclability of the initial jumbo roll. BPP reduces x1.5 the final price compared to laminated coating, which ultimately makes BPP the cost-efficient coating for cardboard and paper sheets.

Are you the coordinator (or a participant) of this project? Plaese send me more information about the "BIOPP" project.

For instance: the website url (it has not provided by EU-opendata yet), the logo, a more detailed description of the project (in plain text as a rtf file or a word file), some pictures (as picture files, not embedded into any word file), twitter account, linkedin page, etc.

Send me an  email (fabio@fabiodisconzi.com) and I put them in your project's page as son as possible.

Thanks. And then put a link of this page into your project's website.
