The vision of MASAI is to satisfy the overall requirements for services dreamed by each mobile citizen: a tailor-made aggregation of features - a digital concierge in everyone’s pocket.
MASAI approaches this aim by building, from the delivery of core elements of a digital concierge approach, a community of stakeholders bringing progressively the adequate evolutions and improvements allowed by the very fast moving technology.
MASAI aims to empower people and service providers to enable a seamless travel experience.
This comprehends:
° Contributing to a Single European Transport Area.
° Addressing all steps of mobility.
° Addressing long distance travel as well as local services (transportation, accommodation, business, tourism).
° Creating an adaptive and scalable ecosystem fostering cooperations in a competitive environment.
° Creating an ecosystem for innovations serving the customer needs.
° Putting travellers in control of their personal data.
° Direct discovery and connection between users and service providers.
° Making sure that service providers (e.g. TravelOffering, TripPlanner) do not have to adapt themselves to MASAI but that MASAI adapts to them.
The following list summarises the achievements of MASAI project at Mid Term as compared to the objectives set at project start (cf. Grant Agreement)
MASAI main objective as a project is to design, prove and demonstrate in various environments the benefit of a library of Plug & Play services connected on a MOBILITY OPEN NETWORK OF SERVICES - MOONS - allowing the client to tailor-set and seamless access his information, ticketing, journey planning, payment and any community services on a case to case approach.
At project mid-term, the MASAI solutions have been specified and proved, and a MASAI community is building up to pilot, expand and sustain these results
To support this main objective, the following goals are reached in intermediate milestones. At project mid-term, the status is as follows:
• To specify the detailed yet generic requirements for the combined delivery of aggregated digital services for coherent process covering the full cycle (consultation, selection, purchasing, delivery, after-sales) of an integrated travel, including mobility and intermediate/end-point services (e.g. hotel, museum, parking, etc.). Although the focus is put on digital services to support the mobility itself, the scope considers all the services accessed in mobility situations.
MASAI delivers a public white book on digital services in mobility situation: a new paradigm to support the mobile citizen in accessing personalised aggregated services
At project mid-term, the White Book v1 is finalised and delivered (D2.2).
• To technically specify a modular, open, flexible and as-most-as-possible decentralized architecture with open APIs towards the seamless aggregation of heterogeneous services and respective systems. MASAI is based on the state of the art IT solutions and existing and upcoming standards, capable of aggregating and delivering the appropriate level of services required in mobility situations within a fragmented IT environment. Such architecture will allow the end-user to build his own environment for the provision or consumption of services based on his personal requirements, independently on any pre-packaged or pre-bundled approach, allowing a maximum of creativity and business initiative from all types of service suppliers.
MASAI delivers and publishes for open use a complete functional and technical specification of such architecture, interfaces and digital flows
At project mid-term, the MASAI specifications are delivered (v2 after refinements brought during first prototyping and proofs of concept)
It is completed by the description of the POCs (D4.1), which deliver complementary insights on how to use MASAI components (D3.1 and 3.2, both v2) and the information on MASAI in the standardisation ecosystem (D7.1)

• To prove the feasibility of such architectures in a series of reference set-ups,
o Prototyping necessary modules, interfaces and APIs, using standards when available
o Delivering the complete range of digital mobility by aggregating data, service modules from existing systems / operators
o Connecting such mobility services to other services (either data-sources or digital-services-providers, or applications using that data and services)
MASAI delivers and openly advertises the proofs of concepts
At project mid-term, the POCs demonstrating the technical feasibility and viability of MASAI approach are delivered (D4.1) and available upon registration on the web site masai.solutions
• To support the implementation of pilot instantiations of MASAI architectures within a selection of stakeholders (authorities and services operators in transport and mobility services, tourism, culture, events …).
MASAI supports through appropriate consultancy, technical support and expertise, a minimum of 3 field pilots, together with open software modules to such pilots with the aim of triggering conditions for business roll out.
At project mid-term, a dedicated (non-profit) structure has been set-up to federate the MA
FROM PATCHWORK TO PLUG&PLAY NETWORKING OF MOBILITY AND RELATED SERVICES
MASAI enables the intelligent and traveller oriented aggregation and delivery of mobility and related services on the basis of traveller owned preferences and profiles.
MASAI defines, standardises and validates an Architecture, user Attributes and APIs from open discovery to fulfillment of services within adequate privacy guidelines.
MASAI stimulates an open ecosystem for the traveller oriented delivery of seamless mobility and related services.
