Periodic Reporting for period 1 - MultiCharge (Feasibility Study for the Development of a PFC Harmonic FilterMissing Link for Creation of Simultaneous Multi-Point Fast Charging Stations for Electric Vehicles)

Teaser

The MultiCharge system developed by Carroll & Meynell is a multiple rapid EV charging unit and will rapidly charge simultaneously up to 10 vehicles with a full or partial electrical powertrain that are able to take a power input of up to 50kW DC.

Summary

The MultiCharge system developed by Carroll & Meynell is a multiple rapid EV charging unit and will rapidly charge simultaneously up to 10 vehicles with a full or partial electrical powertrain that are able to take a power input of up to 50kW DC.

Work performed

The market study revealed that the main markets for MultiCharge are electric vehicle (EV) charging and storage of power from the grid. A priority for the project will therefore be the EV charging market. A patent application has also been filed as part of Phase 1 and supply chain partners engaged, part of which makes up the list of partners for the Phase 2 application.

A business plan has been produced detailing the financial, technical and commercial requirements for market access and success. Under the Plan, Carroll & Meynell will be the OEM who will market the product directly to installers, with some marketing to site owners or site operators.

Final results

The Value Proposition for MultiCharge is:
• The ability to rapidly charge up to 10 vehicles simultaneously using 50kw DC
• A capital cost of up to 60% less per vehicle port than the incumbent rapid charging products, with the total cash outlay required from a customer being lower when 4 or more rapid charging ports are required.
• Greater ability to immediately meet user needs by the avoidance of queues
• Provision of all the functionality of incumbent systems, and availability of both CHAdeMO and Combo connectors.
