\"Nordic Ground Support Equipment AB (NGSE) was established in 2008 and is one of the world’s leading suppliers of semi-automatic washing equipment for aircrafts. The new, highly innovative washing and mobile robot that the company has developed, \"\"Aerowash II\"\", is a fully automatic washing system. Briefly explained, the system has a number of preconfigured washing patterns set according to different aircraft models where the robot controls all movements of the arm and the brush of the system (i.e. the washing equipment will guide the operator in all interactions needed and not the other way around). The role of the operator is to select aircraft model, drive the system to starting position, select starting position and adjust the forward speed of the system.
The objective of the feasibility study has been to prepare a highly flexible business plan for this new robot aimed at 3 key target groups.
Another objective was to decide on a suitable set-up for a number of demonstrations of the new washing robot and to identify which customers and which airports to involve during the demonstration.
Key issues of particular interest for the feasibility study have been:
• To analyse and identify the key target groups at the chosen locations
• To create a comprehensive “offering†plan for the designated locations and each target group
• To analyse and identify any regulatory and legal obstacles or barriers for the deployment of the robot on the chosen locations and find remedies\"
NGSE have visited a big number of airports in Europe (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, UK, Germany and Spain) where thorough investigations and interviews have taken place. The conclusion is that there is a very strong need for a system like Aerowash II, since at the moment there is no solution available that can handle the challenges connected with aircraft exterior washing.
The demand for a safer, more environmentally friendly and fully automatic washing equipment that also save time is apparent.
The potential market and business opportunity has therefore been validated by the activities performed during the study. The outcome of the study showed a very strong need for a system like Aerowash II, since at the moment there is no solution available that can handle the challenges connected with aircraft exterior washing.
