Summary

In Phase 1 we introduced the problem in the European Health system of poor efficiency and lack of interoperability of the legacy Hospital Information Systems (HIS) & Electronic Medical Records (EMR) modules. This was triggering an urgent need for a holistic health management platform to avoid data and exam duplications and to help the extraction of relevant information from the patient´s medical history in a single solution.
Based on our 34-year experience in medical ICT we will bring to market a holistic health management platform KareShare that integrates our Hospital Information System modules, with a natively collaborative Electronic Medical Records. It features a Holistic Synoptic Visualisation of patient history based on Natural Language Processing and a Univiewer to display images of different DICOM and non-DICOM modalities, waveforms and videos, while maintaining total data security & confidentiality for the patient.
In Phase 1 we set financial and technical objectives to make a detailed plan to bring KareShare to TRL9, as well as to develop a business plan

Work performed

We have achieved the technical objectives to establish the technical requirements for the integration of a natively collaborative EMR infrastructure with Tesi’s HIS modules. In collaboration with the University of Trento, we have set a NLP algorithm for extracting patient information and for it display through the Holistic Synoptic Visualization. Thirdly, we have characterized the technical requirements to build the second key feature of our solution, the Univiewer. And lastly, we could establish a plan to validate KareShare solution while setting the user requirements through pilot testing in a reference hospital.
Regarding to the objectives for the pre-commercialization of KareShare, we have set the data privacy issues derived from KareShare use and we can fulfil the European requirements and EU regulation conformity for KareShare commercialization.
We estimate funding requirements of 2.420.187,50 € to launch KareShare to the market and to gain a cumulative turnover of €30M and to create 23 new jobs by 2022.

Final results

We count now with technical the requirements, regulatory and data privacy fundamentals to achieve a revolutionary IT solution for the European Health System, which will also impact on the employment creation in the EU.
