The SOlar Lighting System (SOLIS) collects sunlight outside and distributes it deep within the building interior with unparalleled efficiency and light quality. SOLIS provides healthy, glare-free, full-spectrum, sunlight to previously inaccessible areas, enabling up to 40% saving in the electricity costs of big buildings like office blocks, warehouses or industrial sheds as well as reducing excusive energy use. SOLIS aims to put an end to electricity wasted on lighting by using the suns natural light and energy.
The objective of the SOLIS project is to finalise the engineering and optimisation of all system components, to set-up and operate the industrialised assembly line, to undertake an in-field demonstration of the SOLIS device validating its effectiveness and economic benefits, and to disseminate the project results.
Solight performed a thorough technical and economic feasibility assessment during the Phase 1 SME Instrument. SOLIS conducted interviews with key stakeholders within the European lighting industry (including Lighting Europe and partners of the FP7 SSL-erate project) that expressed high interest towards SOLIS novel technology. During the Feasibility Study, the Company also started a fruitful collaboration with Prof. Fontoynont, one of the academic experts involved in the preparation of the upcoming \'European Standards for Daylight\'. Solight also talked to facility managers and owners from different organisations in Israel, Denmark, France and Ireland to identify the criteria and potential concerns to be considered when choosing to install a solar lighting system: installation and maintenance costs, durability, performance and aesthetic. The Company now aims to follow up their feasibility assessment with the implementation of the planned project and launch their novel product onto the market by the end of Phase 2.
SOLIS is the first, innovative, affordable and cost-effective solution for using health natural sunlight as widespread interior daytime lighting. SOLIS collects and transmits full-spectrum solar light indoor with unparalleled performances, providing commercial and residential buildings wit a cost-effective Human Centric Lighting (HCL) solution. SOLIS\' Minimum Viable Product comprises a highly innovative Optimised Static Collector (OSC), a light transporting waveguide, and a hybrid light dispersing end unit. The combination of these three modules produces a robust, east-to-install and maintenance-free system able to deliver unparalleled 40,000 Lumen per square metre of collector area.
Compared to the most direct completion, SOLIS doubles the sunlight harvested from the outside of the building (on rooftops or southern walls), minimising the indoor expensive and unhealthy artificial light use. The provides tangible economic benefits to the buildings managers, while significantly improving the well-being and performances of the buildings\' occupants. These advantages make SOLIS poised to serve as the first and ultimate choice for a wide range of facilities, starting with schools, hospitals, office blocks, warehouses and malls.
