Summary

The universal fact is that teachers are underpaid, constantly overworked or even both. Education technology can be the key to facilitating these problems. As much as teachers are excited by the new, creative, and high-appeal formats that digital content and interactive tools offer, many find that they do not have the resources, skills, or time to use them.

Tebo directly tackles these challenges by creating a cloud-based environment where teachers can include everything they need for interactive lessons. The heart of Tebo is the materials library. It is organized by subjects and grades, and evaluated by teachers. Teachers upload their materials into the library and the uploaded resources can be found by simply browsing through folders or via a simple search.
For instance, presently teachers spend on average 1-2 hours on finding usable video from Internet; majority of videos found by a simple keyword search do not have education quality nor are age specific. Once a teacher finds an educationally valuable video, he or she can upload the link of the video into the Tebo library, classify it by grade or subject and thereby make it easily accessible for colleagues who are struggling with the same task. Moreover, teachers spend 2-3 hours to create a high quality slide presentations, that are shared it with just the class or limited number of colleagues. Tebo enables to find suitable presentation in less than 2 minutes and thereby save time of creating content that already exists.
In addition to the library Tebo includes templates for building interactive exercises, tests and learning games. The created exercises, quizzes and games can be shared with students and used by other teachers. Students can open the assignments in class or home with any Internet-connected device. After students have completed the assignment teacher gets full analytics on individual student or class progress and can the give real time feedback to students.

Work performed

The SMEI Phase 1 feasibility study has proven the economic and technical feasibility of Tebo. The study indicated that Tebo’s value proposition is unique and generates measurable competitive advantages on the ed-tech market.
All Phase-1 tasks were successfully conducted within the project period. The key takeaways were:
• Go-to-Market strategy - Commercialisation strategy was prepared to ensure successful project implementation and wider platform roll-out within the Phase-2 project. As a result of this task, Tebo has better knowledge of their target markets in EU (especially UK and Finland). As Tebo has a list of contacts within targeted markets. Also, Tebo has reached to preliminary agreements with key partners that play an essential role in our route to market. Tebo has updated data about the edtech market and main end-user needs, mapped the current limitations and created a commercialisation strategy to address these points and main supporting market trends.
• Improved overview about user needs – Tebo needs to tackle cultural and language barriers in in order to be fully ready for international expansion. Also, to increase teacher engagement Tebo is developing a new approach to include social network elements into the platform, which will increase the user engagement as well further differences Tebo from alternative competing platforms.

Final results

Tebo tackles these challenges by providing a platform where teachers can upload, discover, manage and share quality educational resources and get paid for sharing. The fundamental idea behind Tebo is that teachers could spend less time designing new resources and could be inspired by ideas and resources of other teachers, and focus on what teachers do best—teaching while interacting directly with students.
In addition to the resource sharing functionality Tebo uniquely combines scattered edtech application features into single cohesive platform and allows teachers to:
collect, categorize and manage educationally valuable content in one environment (files, pictures, links, videos);
use existing attractive templates for creating interactive quizzes and games;
send homework, track student progress and send instant feedback;
monetize the content they have created;
The feature set creates a perfect platform for preparing and conducting engaging lessons while helping to reduce teacher’s workload. Tebo has proven to save teacher’s time 3-4 hours per week by upgrading learning content management (search and/or creation of materials). Automated test correction allows teachers to gain additional 1-2 hours, which are presently spent on mundane test correction.
