Summary

Proposal summary of METEOR: We cannot control the weather conditions but we can prevent the frost accretion
The innovation challenge of the European METEOR project consists in the development of a frost sensor linked to a data acquisition system which will control self-regulating heating cables.

Our sensors will allow customers to highly reduce power consumption for many applications where smart heating cables are needed to avoid frost formation.

The product will be highly economical, we will ensure a decrease of energy consumption of about 32 to 100 % compared to complex and expensive solutions already proposed on the market.
More particularly, our energy gain varies across continents such as America 36-100%, Europe 45-100%, Asia 32-72%.

Work performed

What is the challenge?
In cold climate, the accretion of frost engenders many problems such as the case of Denmark if the customers use a classic thermostat (which is containing only temperature sensor), they have to pay 4314 euro during January – December 2017 instead of paying only 550 euro if they use METEOR anti-icing connector. Thus, it will be possible to save up to 88% of electricity.
Universally, the frost formation affects several fields such as: industrial, residential, commercial, vehicles and wind turbine, specifically for professional and domestic use. So far, there is no satisfactory system available on the market to prevent frost formation. Existing systems only react to the presence of frost after its formation. The business need is to be able to develop a predictive high-tech anti-icing connector to avoid frost formation. Energy efficiency is an environmental necessity and technological challenge; it is therefore essential to develop a new product that will be used in an optimal way in energy, operational and accuracy terms.

Final results

What is new in our project?
Our innovation deals with the weather problems by conceiving a new device which allows
customers to avoid the formation of frost thanks to high predictive frost sensor linked to heating cables by an anti-icing connector. The present innovation system will detect by temperature and humidity sensors, the convenient conditions of frost accretion and will control the self-regulated heating cables with its data acquisition system. By precisely measuring Temperature and Humidity, our sensor will be able to anticipate frost formation and to activate self-regulated heating cables that will avoid frost formation. Our final product will be available with a price/quality ratio that is quite reasonable for customers.
