Mass produced bikes do not take into account the ergonomic differences between individuals (i.e. body proportions), nor their different type of usage (urban, race, mountain, etc.), basically due to production inefficiency of customizing bikes. This leads to two basic problems for the user: (1) the purchase of serial-manufactured bikes not suited to their individual body dimensions, which leads to physical problems and unenjoyment of the ride and/or (2) the purchase of an individualized bike, which implies a high expenditure and a long waiting time. Furthermore, in the case of an e-bike the addition of a battery complicates the possibility to offer customized bikes at affordable prices.
MI-BIKE allows mass-manufacture of 100% customized (e-)bikes, designed from medical & orthopedic parameters for optimal, comfortable and healthy use. We have developed (1) an algorithm able to design perfectly tailor-made (e-)bikes and (2) a fully-automated manufacturing system, thus making it affordable. We will reduce a 40% the weight of our frames by introducing carbon material in our new frames and will integrate our self-developed batteries for e-bikes, which will require further modification of said frames.
We carried out a technical development assessment, including a preliminary work plan. We made a thorough research of prospective partners, both for production and commercialization.
We carried out a deep study about the global bike market size and the European bike market’s status quo (detailing specifically those countries we will tackle during our market uptake). We analyzed our end-users, competitors and communication and dissemination strategies. We carried out a commercial assessment and defined an exploitation strategy. A deep IPR analysis was realized and no conflict with existing solutions was found. Finally, we analyzed the financial feasibility, including a business plan for the first five years after the project.
By the end of this project we will be ready to mass-produce and launch our new frames, with an integrated battery for e-bikes. Sales shall start in 2020 and has strong growth perspectives. We have calculated the creation of 61 new direct European jobs and an accumulated revenue of €78.31 million by 2024.
