Have you ever experienced problems with the WiFi connection?
Current WiFi networks suffer from high density of users requesting a large amount of data. According to the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) there are 9 billion connected devices worldwide, there are 11 exabytes of cellular traffic offloaded monthly to WiFi (60% of all mobile data), and this trend is going to grow exponentially in the next few years with the IoT, Smart Cities, Connected Transport or Industry 4.0. In addition to the large amounts of connected devices, a second problem must be considered: in modern WiFi deployments, there is a large amount of interference, hundreds of devices are competing for the resources on the same spot. Today there are 300 million hotspots, by 2021 there will be 542 million (according to WBA). Therefore, the challenge is to give a response to the growing needs for speed, quality of service, sustainability, and reliability of present and future wireless connections.
