In spite of the annual growth rate (47%) of Internet data consumption and speed requirements, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are suffering from the continuous erosion of traditional services revenues (voice and messaging) due to the Over-The-Top applications (Skype, WhatsApp, etc.). To cope with the growing demand while increasing revenues, ISPs need to leverage existing infrastructures as much as possible, monetising the Internet consume data.
Tessares has developed the Multipath App (MPA), an innovative software which is able to combine all the ISP’s existing access technology investments (mobile Internet, WiFi hot-spots and Community WiFi) to better deliver current and emerging internet-based services. The MPA is the first downloadable app based on MPTCP and potentially other technologies and Internet protocols to offer higher speed, reliability and on-the-move consistency by enabling smartphones to simultaneously combine WiFi and 4G/5G networks.
A feasibility study is needed to confirm that there is a real market opportunity for the product whilst the conditions for the commercialization are beneficial.
A work plan for the technical improvements was defined, dividing the activities in three main groups: final design and implementation, software improvements, and solution quality assurance.
Revenues from mobile services will grow by 14% between 2015 and 2020 reaching €814 billion in 2020. In addition, revenues associated with data transmission and Internet will grow more strongly to reach €344 billion in 2020. The boom of the Internet of Things will contribute to this boom. ISPs need to increase their share of these revenues.
Tessares has already patented 4 mechanisms built on top of MPTCP to protect their core technology. The IPR analysis demonstrates that there isn´t any conflict with other existing patents.
The business plan demonstrates that the business idea is profitable and it has a positive impact: detecting the early adopters from the beginning and speed to market are two key aspects of the entry strategy
The MPA represents a real innovation for the Internet Service Providers´ needs, being capable to create 12 new direct jobs during the project and generating over €95M of revenues during the period 2021-2025. Moreover, another 30 employees will be hired during the same period (2021-2025).
The MPA increases the profitability of operators by combining: CAPEX avoidance, additional revenues, higher customer lifetime value, and higher return on assets.
