Summary

Sniper is an innovative Bus Fire Suppression System designed by Firing to maximize efficiency while reducing both downtime due to installation and cost. During the feasibility study we analysed the current stage of development and planed all the activities necessary to take Sniper from TRL6 to TRL8. We have built the project work plan. We have identified and listed the technical key performance indicators necessary to reach the level of quality set up by the company. We also identified main technical risk that could occur during the project implementation and propose mitigation actions to reduce this risk. We came with a plan for all the testing and certification necessary as well as to analysis what regulations apply. Sniper proved feasible from a technical point of view and with the support of the EIC accelerator program we could bring to reach market readiness within twenty-four months.

Work performed

We established our technical roadmap with all the steps required to take SNIPER fire detection and suppression system to TRL 9. We built our work plan for the execution of the Phase 2 covering the work packages, resource allocation, schedule that we seek to complete over a period of 24 months and cost baselines. We identified and detailed mitigation measures and strategies for the potential technical risks that could arise during the execution of the technical activities to be conducted in Ph2.
We conducted a deep analysis of the Fire Protection and Suppression Systems Market for bus engines and the commercial impact that we are targeting. We quantified the SNIPER system market size, the pricing strategy, the current and potential competitors, as well as barriers to overcome. We have developed our commercial strategy for SNIPER including the exploitation strategy and spot potential commercialization risks and mitigation strategies to ensure commercialization success. We updated our FTO and IPR to get global market penetration.
We evaluated the total investment required and the financial viability of the project. Furthermore, we perform a cost analysis of the SNIPER system and update the sales projections, cost, margin and ROI for the first 5 years of commercialisation.
We compiled all this information to create a business plan for Sniper.

Final results

Now that EU has regulated the use of fire suppression system for buses many bus operators are forced to install such systems in their bus fleet. This represents a huge cost that could affect the profitability of bus companies around Europe as well as local governments economy. Sniper can help reduce these losses by reducing the downtime necessary to install the system and the cost of acquisition. Sniper can contribute to make our buses safer reducing the change of a fatal incident like it has happened in the past. There are 11 million buses in the world and each year 100.000 fires are reported on buses putting in danger lives and vehicles. SNIPER system is scalable to other countries and other vehicles such as trucks or heavy machinery so, it will contribute to boost the European economy development, increasing security in an environmental friendly way, competitiveness and creating new jobs opportunities.
