 Project objective

In recent years, the growth of hacker and cyber-attacks has significantly increased. As a result of growing threats European Commission, European Council and European Parliament decided to step up their cyber security efforts by reinforcing the new EU cyber security law. The new European GDPR places high demands on the collection and storage of personal data of individuals by public agencies and companies.

Authorities and companies’ process data containing sensitive or confidential information. This information may only be stored on authorized media. Currently, there are no external data carriers in the EU or worldwide, which are approved by the BSI being suitable for clearance level such VS-NfD(classified information for official use) or higher. Furthermore, within the EU there is an increased use of PKI (Public-Key-Infrastructure)-based smart cards by government agency and businesses as company ID for the purpose of secure authentication as well as execution of various internal processes and tasks.

There are already a few manufacturers of encrypted USB Drives on the market, predominantly based in the US or China. Their products are however not suitable for sensitive data with confidential levels such as VS-NfD or higher. Furthermore there is no solution on the market that allows data carriers to unlock with company IDs.

The innovation of DIGITTRADE solves these problems and is called encrypted storage device for classified information KOBRA. It unites two products of new generation: external encrypted hard drive ESDCI KOBRA Drive and the encrypted USB-C stick ESDCI KOBRA Stick. These data carriers are easy to use and can be activated with existing company ID cards.

Since its founding in 2005, DIGITTRADE has been involved in the development and production of encrypted data carriers with hardware encryption. In 2017, the HS256S3 became the first hard disk worldwide to receive the IT Security Certificate of the German Federal Office for Information Security(BSI).
