Perceive3D provides embedded software for endoscopy, aiming at assisting the surgeon in the procedures using computer aided navigation and visualization improvements. P3D developed a new and unique technology to guide the surgeon through arthroscopic procedures of the hip, using the endoscopic image to perform measurements.
Perceive3D’s software solutions will enable the “average†surgeon to execute sophisticated, complex MIS procedures with positive, repeatable clinical outcomes without requiring the acquisition of expensive, non-reimbursable equipment whose usage disrupts the normal surgical workflow. Perceive3D vision is to introduce a disruptive technology for surgical navigation into the market.
Since the beginning of the project the company has elaborated a feasibility study / business plan of the navigation technology through intense interactions with the market. Feedback from the main players in the sector has validated the proposed business model (partnership for co-development with licensing) and the creation of a clinical advisory board has allowed the validation of the technology impact in the selected surgical procedures. The work carried during the feasibility study period allowed the decision on which surgical procedure to target first, which was accomplished through interaction with potential partners in the industry. Advances in IP protection have also indicated that the technology is patentable, increasing the overall value of the company for a future fund raising or exit.
The new navigation technology avoids large investments in additional capital equipment because it uses the existing endoscopic video to perform measurements and provide visual guidance to the surgeon throughout the procedures. Avoiding changes in the OR layout and established surgical routines (no line of sight, no electromagnetic interferences, no tools instrumented with bulky markers), and the increased accuracy, robustness and reliability of the technology are one of the main differentiating factors.
The technology will be applicable to a multitude of other surgical procedures and will be the enabler of a new generation of surgical navigators to be used worldwide in hospitals and healthcare institutions, specially in those hospitals and clinics with a small amount of procedures that don´t have access to the expensive systems that actually exist in the market.
