The data storage market becomes vital in order to answer to an increasing amount of digital data, increasing number of personal data hacking accident, inefficiently of the existing technologies and rising demands for better quality of user experience. The project’s main proponent, Varaani Works Oy, aims to significantly contribute to data storage sustainability, reliability, security and efficiency principles for the end-users, households. The overall objective of the HyCloud project is to move the technology from its readiness level 6 to 9, making the data storage system qualified and certified.
Varaani has obtained many positives feedbacks and endorsements from the Finish ICT service provider Anvia; from Arctic15’s coordinators and participants; Red Herring, that has nominated Varaani as European TOP 100 most promising companies in 2013; Tredea, the Tampere Region Economic Development Agency, that has supported Varaani in the company development process. Futhernore, the HyCloud system has received strong interest from broadband service providers in Finland, Germany and the UK.
During the Feasibility assessment Varaani has contacted 33 broadband service providers and obtained many positive feedback. The conducted (e/tele)-interviews and organised meetings with the broadband service providers have shown that there is a high demand for the hybrid data storage system. However, the distributors are not willing to invest a time and money to the product development and testing. The medium and large broadband service providers are only interested in the final product. Thanks to the Feasibility study, Varaani has prepared two business models, focusing on distributing the HyCloud through broadband service providers and selling license to ODM. The first ODM manufacturer has been secured in the PH1 project, and will manufacturer first units of the HyCloud.
During the PH1 project Varaani has defined a minimum viable product, established engineering and industrialisation plans, and as well prepared the IP strategy and 5 years financial projections.
The expected outcome of the project is to start the full commercialization of the Varaani’s system at the end of PH2 as a reliable innovation validated by the consumers, certified and IP protected. In simple words, to introduce to the cloud data storage market the hybrid data storage solution that will increase trust, security and transparency of cloud infrastructures and services, including data integrity, confidentiality and localisation. HyCloud will allow users access the files independent of their location using a smart device and to reconstruct the data in case of device failure, damage or theft. HyCloud is something evolutionary and innovative not only in Europe but worldwide that addresses the data losses sufferers and offers to them a solution for a bigger, safer, cheaper and more reliable data storage system. Varaani will help increasing the amount of data protected and backed up across Europe and Worldwide.
