 Project objective

What if 741 million Europeans had an easy way to find an book affordable live music entertainment? 700,000 Independent EU artists, bands and DJs would perform more often; at least three times as much artists would be able to earn a living with music; and 50 million households would get access to what before was framed as a luxury service.

10,000 Booking requests since 2015 validate our concept: there is a demand for low budget live music bookings. Ordinary people don’t know where or how to find artists and the ones that can be found cost at least 1,500 euros. Interestingly, artists are in desperate need for more work but don’t know how to get more gigs. There is a systemic market barrier incapacitating non-contracted musicians. As a counterweight, Gigstarter has created a do-it-yourself infrastructure which empowers (private) clients and autonomous artists to find each other and get to an agreement easily.

After testing our proposition in the Netherlands we've recently introduced our initiative in eight EU countries. The first international artists are subscribing, totalling 5,500 artists today. This year we expect to receive 4 million euros in local and cross-border booking requests. Gigstarter doesn’t ask a booking fee. Our goal is to internalise a large market; create real opportunities for our users and monetise on the professionalising tip using our infrastructure.

The commercial viability has been tested locally in the Netherlands. Offer and demand use our system, growth is 100% per year and 8% of connected artists upgrades to a paid membership. This led to our break-even point in the Netherlands last year. Although further R&D is required, the basic IT system and online services are ready for scale-up. Scaling up to a 16% EU market-share will catalyse: 400 million euros in artist bookings; 930,000 concerts for local and private events and 35 million euros turnover by 2022. Let’s liven up Europe's latent live music potential.
