The Ximantis mission is to provide intelligent traffic solutions to reduce individual and societal congestion waste, thus conserving energy, time and capital, while enabling transportation companies and drivers to contribute to sustainability. The ultimate objective of the project is to make Mantis ready for B2B market launch in Europe, hence contributing to sustainability goals in supporting the reduction of traffic air pollution.
Throughout the duration of the project, Ximantis defined the specifications and requirements, reviewed its development plan and supply chain, expanded the knowledge of the market and regulations, and established a commercialisation strategy. The go-to-market strategy was defined as the enter of B2B customer segment, targeting transportation companies. The Phase 1 feasibility assessment has established that a development plan for the Mantis platform is technically and commercially viable, and that implementation of a commercialisation plan should be pursued. SME Instrument Phase 2 funding could provide the correct amount of funding and support to allow the stated activities to be implemented successfully.
The continued economic growth and urbanisation trends represent a growing challenge for cities. Rising traffic congestion is an inescapable condition in large and growing metropolitan areas across the world, costing as much as 1% to 4% of national GDP. In 2018, 11 of the top 15 cities with highest number of spent hours in congestion globally were European. Main urban regions of smaller countries like Belgium and Ireland are also reported to be seriously affected by the traffic congestion. Traffic congestion imposes massive costs on all government, transportation companies and drivers due to time loss, increased pollution rates, and higher incidence of accidents. Each year, congestion costs in Europe amount to €100 billion, about 1% of the EU’s GDP. Without effective action, the problem could worsen, with congestion costs projected to increase to €200 billion by 2050.
