Summary

LCEET is at the crossroads between a Renewable Energy facilitator, and an Energy Business Angel.
We engage and associate with localities, local stakeholders and industry players to guarantee a successful development of Renewable Energy power plants.
Our portfolio of Renewable Energy plants cumulates PV, biomass, and SRF gasification.
REAL aims at diversifying our portfolio of product since it focuses on small-size, customizable gasification power plants. These decentralized, renewable energy plants produce energy (syngas, electricity, heat) from Solid Recovered Fuels (SRF) or fuel prepared from non-hazardous waste.
Gasification power plants are based on the gasification principle, which is a thermodynamic process that can be highly efficient (up to 75% - 88% depending on the design and conditions) in the generation of electricity and/or heat and/or commercial gases.

The problem addressed by LCEET is the need for an increased electrification in some rural areas in Europe, and the need to address the decentralization, with a customized solution adapted to the resources and the needs of localities, to decrease their energy dependence.

Work performed

During this period, we studied various markets (SRF of different types: end of life, coated, treated wood, quality 1, 2, 3, electricity, gas, heat) and how our new technology (gasification of SRF) could be promoted to local stakeholders outside Europe. We found out that, outside France, Germany, Spain and Italy are potential markets for our European expansion. Regulation at national and European level will be carefully looked at, and we identified that having an energy regulation expert with a European background in our staff would scale up our European expansion in the future.
On the technical side, we decided:
1) that the demonstration plant would be containerized to avoid monopolizing a field, and to offer a flexible demonstration of the technology when the moment to expand in Europe arises.
We mapped out the ideal value chain for us, to help local stakeholders constitute Local energy communities.
2) that the reactors for gasification (fixed bed or fluidized bed), or the installed capacity (in kW) wouldn’t be a fixed design or predetermined but would be tailored to the needs of the localities.
We communicated these key findings with key industrial players to validate our strategic choices, and the reception was positive, and enabled us to complete our value chain (discussions with GrDF, with Enerxyl, and with gasification experts).

Final results

Progress beyond the state of the art could be made during the period of the feasibility study on the technical aspects.
We have conducted a thorough technical analysis of the gasification technologies and associated each technology to the needs of locality interested by our new product.
The knowledge we acquired of the different types of SRF, of their different providers, enabled us to map the potential association of technologies with the localities interested, following the leads generated by our business development activities.
The societal implications could be broader than a simple electrification of rural areas in the European countryside. We are Renewable Energy facilitators, with a proved experience in ground PV, biomass power plant, and with the gasification technology in our portfolio, we will clearly differentiate our offer to our clients, with a different panel of decentralized, sustainable power plants to truly empower the localities, adapted to their resources.
