AIRMES brings together 12 partners from around Europe among big industries, SMEs, research centres and universities.
The second phase of the project was characterized by the development of the solutions specified in the first phase of the project, its testing and the beginning of its integration.
The solutions developed in AIRMES will contribute to:
• Reduce technically induced operational disruptions;
• Reduce maintenance task\'s execution time;
• Maximise airline and maintenance assets utilisation.
WP1 – E2E Service & Operations Design (M2P)
The objectives of WP1 were achieved in the first period of the project. The main outcomes of this WP were cross guidelines to all the working teams as the design process and IVV plan, the reference Operational Scenarios and a study on the E2E Maintenance Business Analysis which will be the basis for the evaluation of the project’s results.
WP2 – E2E Maintenance Platform and IHMM Development and Demonstration (ONERA)
Architecture modeling ended up during this period. It has gathered all heterogeneous pieces of knowledge on the end to end system into a consistent, formal, graphical model, compliant with the NATO Architecture Framework.
Safety assessment also ended up during the period, it has identified customized failure modes and then went through a systematic analysis of every specified maintenance scenarios.
The E2E-Evaluation system has been defined. It computes a projection of the benefits coming from each technology to a single MRO company and overall to the European MRO market over the coming years. This evaluation needed to be aligned with DEMETER and PACMAN.
Integrated Health Monitoring and Management subsystem is a critical provider of information to every component of the maintenance optimization. The standard TRL4 has passed TRL5 and is now in progress for TRL6, which is the final level aimed by the project.
WP3 – Prognostics solution development, integration and operational performance demonstrations (MSA)
After defining the concept of operations, the nature and source of the input data and the end-users’ requirements, it has been decided that the prognostics solutions in AIRMES would be based on discrete failure messages rather than sensor data.
The second step was to clean and sort out the input data.
Final step was the development of the prognostic algorithms themselves. The preliminary results available at the moment confirm how penalizing the small amount of input data is. The various indicators defined for evaluating the prognostic benefits are below expectations at the time of writing.
WP4 – Collaborative and Data Analytics Environment (ATOS)
The Collaborative Environment provided an IT ‘Big Data’ platform facilitating data exchange between different applications that may be on different systems and with different formats. The knowledge warehouse feature is based on Semantic Web technologies. The same platform shall host any kind of applications including Data Analytics and shall offer the needed memory and computational resources.
Data analytics development established advanced automated data analytics strategies in order to ease the management of aviation data for airline maintenance operations.
WP5 – Maintenance Planning and Optimisation and Configuration Management Solutions (TUD)
Development and implementation of a prototype Maintenance Optimisation Tool to schedule C- and A-checks at the fleet level. The tool considers operational constraints, such as reduced maintenance capacity during commercial peak periods and weekends, and it exploits other pre-scheduled maintenance activities, such as landing gear checks and cabin modifications. Since last summer, the team is extending this maintenance scheduling tool with a task packing algorithm. The algorithm considers the multi-year maintenance schedule to allocate maintenance tasks over time, respecting airworthiness requirements and the workforce available.
Development and implementation of a standalone Configuration Management prototype tool. It covers the initialisation, consultation, comparison, and storage of the ‘as-allowed’ and ‘as-flying’ aircraft systems and sub-systems. An interaction with the workspace was developed to facilitate a seamless update of the ‘as flying’ configuration resulting from a work-order.
WP6 – Integrated Mobile solutions for maintenance execution enhancement (TAP)
WP6’s objective is to create an integrated mobile tool that will provide enhan
The main outcomes to be derived from AIRMES are the following:
• Service oriented Integrated Health Monitoring and Management (IHMM) platform considering legacy fleet technology constraints;
• Condition based maintenance integrated platform (including integration of diagnostics and prognostics);
• Maintenance planning and optimisation solution;
• Data warehouse infrastructure in a collaborative environment platform (including data mining solutions and data analytics);
• Mobile tools for maintenance execution;
• Infrastructure for maintenance mobile tools;
• Virtual Reality solutions for aircraft maintenance;
• Configuration capturing and management solution.
