Results of the sorption enhanced gasification in CSIC and USTUTT lab-scale testing

This deliverable will be a report where all the results and conclusions obtained in the sorption enhanced gasification tests will be shown. The results of the two lab-scale facilities involved in the project will be reported. Reference task: 2.1.

Characterisation of raw materials for sorption enhanced gasification

This deliverable will be a report that will compile all the information obtained in the analysis of the different fuels that will be used in the gasification experiments along the projects. In addition, the sorbents used in the sorption enhanced gasification will be also analysed and the results will be also reported in this deliverable. Reference task: 2.1.

Preliminary process simulations

Report on preliminary process simulation study with mass and energy balances, sensitivity analysis and simplified economic analysis of the complete FLEDGED system. The key performance indexes are calculated and the key process variables affecting the energy performance and economics are identified. Reference task: 4.1.

Goal and scope of the Sustainability and Process Safety analysis

D6.1 aims at defining a comprehensive framework to assess the environmental, socio-economic and safety performance of the investigated biomass-to-liquid value chains. It also includes the management of data collection within WP6 (including coordination, preparation of data collection templates, definition of a time plan, etc.). Reference tasks: 6.1, 6.2, 6.3.

Synthesis, characterization and catalytic performance of HPA and Al2O3 catalysts for methanol dehydration

The deliverable focuses on the development of catalysts for DME production based on heteropolyacids and comparison of their performance against benchmark Al2O3 catalysts. Commercial HPAs (W, P…) will be deposited on different supports (TiO2, Ce2O3, Al2O3, carbon…) using different loadings. Catalysts will be characterized to determine their bulk and surface composition, their textural properties and their acidity by XRD, XPS, BET, thermal analysis and chemisorption of CO2 and or NH3 amongst others. In addition the catalytic performance for methanol dehydration will be evaluated in a fixed bed reactor and compared with Al2O3 . The effects of variable such as T, P and GHSV for methanol conversion and selectivity will be evaluated. The best catalyst(s) will be identified. Reference task: 2.2.

Catalytic performance of novel catalyst mixtures for the direct synthesis of DME

This deliverable aims to identify the optimum composition of catalysts mixtures for the production of DME from syngas in fixed bed reactor. Mixtures will comprise a syngas to methanol catalyst and dehydration catalyst. The effect of the nature of each catalyst, relative loading and degree of mixing will be evaluated in terms of syngas conversion, DME production and durability. In addition, reaction conditions P, T and GHSV will be optimized. Reference task: 2.1.

Synthesis, characterization and catalytic performance of Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 and MnOx/Co3O4 for the methanol synthesis

MnOx/Co3O4 catalysts with different compositions (Mn to Co ratios) will be prepared by different procedures including co-precipitation at controlled pH. Catalysts will be characterized by different techniques including BET, XRD, XPS, ATG and TEM. The catalytic performance for the synthesis of methanol from syngas will be evaluated in fixed bed reactor at different P, T and GHSV and compared against benchmark Cu/Zn/Al2O3 in terms of activity, selectivity and durability. Reference task: 2.2.
