'The aim of MANUNET II is to cooperate among regions and countries around Europe with fruitful calls in the field of Manufacturing, to ensure that MANUNET II suits perfectly in ERA and, finally, to propose a sustainable cooperation structure for a very long term frame. In order to enhance this impact, the extension that will cover MANUNET II is going to be longer than MANUNET CA, having included more countries. The specific objectives of MANUNET II are: • To constitute a Consortium with a longer extension around Europe. • To improve cooperation and coordination among MANUNET II and national and regional programmes. • To improve cooperation and coordination among MANUNET II and the other initiatives at European level, such as the NMP calls, “The Factory of the Future” and the other manufacturing related ERA-NETs (MATERA, MNT-ERA.Net II…), in this last case opening the path for manufacturing activities integration. • To propose effective solutions for an integrated and sustainable European manufacturing programme based on national and regional funds and able to effectively complement the other continental RTD support tools. • To carry out 6 new calls for proposals with a high cooperation among regions/countries, more funding by countries/regions, higher R&D investment mobilized, appropriate dates and effective dissemination.'
EU research funding agencies are improving on an established framework for long-lasting cooperation on manufacturing in Europe. The manufacturing industry is the driving force in Europe's economy and employs over 37 million people.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are of the utmost importance for the European manufacturing sector. The MANUNET II project, funded by the EU, is supporting SMEs funding manufacturing excellence.
The MANUNET II project is part of the European Research Area (ERA) network scheme. This approach is enabling countries in Europe to take on tasks collectively that they would not have been able to tackle independently.
With the aim of fostering the competitiveness of Europe's manufacturing industry, the MANUNET II project is funding research projects in this sector. This work will be performed by European enterprises, particularly SMEs, universities and research centres.
During the first stage of the MANUNET II project, exhaustive work was carried out to set up the rules and procedures for more countries and regions to be included in the network. The project has identified the agencies belonging to highly industrialised countries or regions and invited them to join the manufacturing network.
Furthermore, the MANUNET II project has also launched two calls for research proposals for transnational collaborative projects. In order to publicize the network and its calls for proposals, the team has created promotional material, they have given presentations in manufacturing related conferences and participated in exhibition stands at international, national and regional events.
Looking ahead, MANUNET II will continue to develop a sustainable programme in order to ensure not only the continuation, but also the consolidation of the project's work. In addition, the project's close interaction with the European Technology Platform Manufacture will be reinforced to help meet the needs of Europe's manufacturing industry.
