 Project objective

Portchain is a company of data scientists, software engineers, shipping professionals and management consultants founded in 2017 to realize the huge digitization potential in global container shipping and help create a greener, more efficient industry. Our solutions use advanced analytics of operational data and next generation web technologies to optimize key planning processes in the shipping value chain. For example, we can improve the utilization of a typical container terminal by 5% and increase the speed and accuracy of multi-stakeholder port call coordination. The end result is significant bottom line impact for carriers and terminal operators and a potential annual saving of 15 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. Portchain is already used by carriers and terminals in live planning operations in one of Europe’s largest ports, but the vision is to connect the leading European ports in a regional cluster. The 18-month Horizon 2020 project supports the testing and replication of the solution across the continent and beyond. The development of Portchain was funded by the Danish Innovation Fund and the Danish Maritime Fund.
