Anatomus is a software platform the enables personalised and recorded doctor-patient consultations, which enhance patient education and increase treatment plan adherence.
Seal of Excellence recipient in February 2019, eMedia is an award winning medical multimedia software design company, registered and based in Ireland, specialising in 3D medical education software - most notably, creators of the Pocket Anatomy range which has achieved over 1.5 downloads worldwide to date. Founded by eLearning specialist Mark Campbell, (MSc. in Interactive Media from University of Limerick and MIT) and his wife, Dr. Fiona Concannon (MA in Psychology and a Doctorate in Technology Enhanced Learning), the company has developed Anatomus, a software platform that provides personalised digital recordings of the doctor-patient consultation that fits into the work-flow of doctors, patients, carers and medical insurances to improve communication, patient engagement and treatment plan adherence.
The doctor-patient consultation lasts on average 10 minutes in Europe, resulting, in the patient, remembering only 14% of what was discussed. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), “in developed countries, adherence among patients suffering chronic diseases averages only 50%”, which leads to higher hospitalisation, higher costs (€125billion/year), higher social impact and premature deaths (200,000/year). Similarly, in the US, according to research carried out by the Health Policy Institute in Georgetown University “the healthcare industry now spends an unnecessary $73 billion per year in hospital stays and doctors visits simply because patients don’t understand what their doctor is explaining or how to properly take prescribed medication.”
Based on these challenges, Anatomus helps patients understand and remember what the doctor said by using software and cloud computing to securely record, encrypt and store these conversations as multimedia (3D, Audio and Video) files for easy review.
