 Project objective

Energy Majors are looking for new polymeric materials that provide exceptional performance in use (e.g. mechanical properties, durability, easy processing) in extreme environments conditions (offshore equipment, hydrogen storage tanks, etc). Yet, their options are limited as all existing materials have their limitations. Also, sustainability and carbon footprint are increasingly important for them. DEMETA is an innovative French SME created in 2011 with the ambition to become a global leader in high-performance polymers synthesized through green chemistry. DEMETA will enter the Energy market with project i-CARE. i-CARE’s disruptive high-performance polymer is branded NexTene™. It relies on a patented, green chemistry compliant catalyst, polymerizing a waste product from the petroleum industry (DCPD). NexTene™ outperforms existing materials in extreme environments and has a 47% lower carbon footprint than epoxy and other conventional materials. NexTene™ will enable equipment for offshore equipment (windmill structures, pipelines coating, custom coating, buoyancy modules, etc.). To ensure rapid deployment, DEMETA has chosen a fabless business model, outsourcing in Europe its whole production (catalyst production and blending operations). DEMETA has already started establishing partnerships with Energy Majors and key stakeholders of the energy ecosystem in Europe and abroad. 27 letters of intents from potential clients and stakeholders have been gathered. Thanks to the Accelerator EIC i-CARE project, DEMETA will accelerate the remaining development and qualification tests to reach TRL 8 on NexTene™ applications. Thanks to the EC investors, we will start market deployment and reach TRL9 before 2022. I-CARE will contribute to Europe worldwide leadership in the high-performance polymers market.
