'Researchers´ Night in Madrid 2012 is a project aiming at enhancing public recognition of researchers and their work and at bringing scientists closer to the public, by means of a set of festive activities to be carried out throughout the Region of Madrid on the evening of the 28th September 2012. These activities will be targeted to the public at large and they will involve the main universities, research centres and scientific societies in the Region.
In total 18 activities will be performed in different venues in Madrid, Alcalá de Henares, Móstoles, Alcorcón and Leganés, populations that altogether have more than 5 million inhabitants. These activities will include: workshops, debates, theatre plays, contests, exhibitions, guided tours, magic performances, experiments, etc.
It is expected that 8,800 people will attend the activities, that 300 researchers will take part in the activities and that 500,000 people will be made aware of the Researchers´ Night.
The project is structured in four work packages and has the following main activities: design of the awareness campaign, implementation of the awareness campaign, organization of the activities of the Researchers´ Night, development of the activities, elaboration of the questionnaires for impact assessment, collection of information, analysis of the results, dissemination of results and management.
It is expected that the project will contribute to tackling the existing stereotypes about researchers, at achieving a better understanding of the researchers’ work and the benefits it brings to society, at increasing the dialogue between the public and the researchers and at showing young people the attractiveness of research careers.'
