'The suggested project (ARTIAC) will be carried out under the interdisciplinary field of the Learning Sciences, and will use various research methodologies, including state-of-the-art Learning Analytics and Educational Data Mining approaches. Its main purpose is to empirically study the changing role of the teacher in an era where software used in class might be capable of recognizing not only a pupil’s academic level and needs, but also the pupil’s emotional regularities and irregularities. With this kind of information – and as teachers have crucial role in promoting an affective investment on the part of their pupils – it should be examined if teachers are to change the focus of their attention in computer-based classes towards supporting their pupils with meaningful and timely affective support. The project will explore this change of focus, and will supply teachers with efficient technological tools to support them in their affective decision-making in real-time. By its nature – combining concepts, models, and methods from Education, Psychology, Computer Science, Engineering, and others – this project is truly interdisciplinary.'
