 Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)

'Metal soil-steel bridges are getting more and more popular in Europe in recent years.Four identical large-span flexible structures SuperCor will be constructed on A4 motorway in Poland. The structures will be low-profile arch metal culverts with a span of 19.5m and a rise of 6.0m.The culverts will be served as animal crossings. The primary objectives of the proposal are connected with realization of fullscale field tests of one of mentioned structures during backfilling operation and long-term monitoring of behaviour after the end of construction. The main research objectives are the following:1)Investigation of strains and deformations in metal plates of culvert during backfilling operations,2)Long-term monitoring of behaviour of a large-span metal structure after the end of construction,3)The analysis of the results, and the calibration computer codes used to the Finite Element Method(FEM) to model the behaviour of large-span culverts. The important objective of the proposal is detailed analyses of test results.Numerical culverts models will be created using the FEM and these FEM systems will be adjusted for geotechnical purposes. The experimental data obtained under field and fullscale tests are urgently needed to verify geotechnical software and development design methods. The other objective is to run a new course by applicant entitled:'Flexible buried structures'at the host institution. The course will concern testing, designing and constructing buried structures and it will be run together with one of the experts from Norway. One of the aims of Human Resources and Mobility Activity is to increase mobility of researchers in Europe as an instrument of researchers’ exchange between universities and industry. The proposal certainly meets this aim enabling the applicant to continue his researches in Norway as a part of the initial fellowship and it will give him a possibility of managing research project at the home university in cooperation with an industrial partner.'
