BILAT SILK will identify and demonstrate mutual interest and benefit in the cooperation between the EU and China sharing best practises via workshops and presenting the state of the art and the prospects for cooperation in particular fields. BILAT SILK will also identify 6 research areas of interest between the EU and China, with the ultimate aim of better strengthening and benefit from science and technology cooperation. The activities foreseen aim at elaborating a detailed mapping of joint research themes between EU and China and enhancing the cooperation. Furthermore BILAT SILK will analyze the state-of-the-art of methodologies and practices used in current European and Chinese Technology Assessment (TA) as science and technology policy advisory, to identify common themes and practices and provide a comprehensive list of TA organisations For achieving an optimum participation of Chinese teams in the 7th FP BILAT SILK will provide efficient training of National and Regional Information Points through specialised trainings in specific FP7 issues but also special trainings in providing NCP services. Furthermore, the website of the Chinese NCP-organisation will be further enhanced and developed in order to provide info in the Chinese organisations and also a pool of partner profiles both Chinese and EU searchable by EU project coordinators.'
The European-funded Bilat-Silk project is helping to raise awareness of the mutual benefits of cooperation between China and Europe under FP7. Like trade-routes of old, it brings to China's markets the proverbial caravan laden with information and calls.
The mutual benefits of cooperating with Europe under the Union's main research framework programme (FP7) may not be immediately obvious. So the Bilat-Silk project has worked to increase understanding among Chinese business and research institutions of the potential advantages of greater research cooperation with Europe.
Newsletters, info-days and the latest FP7 news helps to keep Chinese stakeholders informed of the research and cooperation opportunities with the EU. Additionally, the interaction between delegates of the Commission and Chinese policy-makers has helped attract main actors in both economic regions.
The project also conducted a detailed mapping of joint research themes between China and Europe. Furthermore, Bilat-Silk has studied the methodologies and practices of both regions, and acts in an advisory capacity for science and technology issues to ensure optimum participation in FP7.
Bilat-Silk has also planned to provide specialised training for 'National contact points' (NCP) on FP7 services and issues, and develop partner-search activities to further enhance the collaborative experience.
