 Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)

'A 2007 survey among the Luxembourg public has brought out a shocking truth: hardly anybody knows a local researcher, nor what the researcher’s life is all about. Consequently, the “Researchers Going Public – SCIPO” project, initiated by the FNR (Fonds National de la Recherche), aims to promote dialogue and communication between researchers and the public (especially the young). The project is based on a mix of activities, bringing together researchers and citizens in the popular centre of the City of Luxembourg. From 2 pm until midnight, researchers will literally go public and meet the people in their usual context. The researchers will be the stars of the event, playing the role of testimonials, guides, animators and common human beings Activities will include a Scientific Treasure Hunt across the city’s main locations, several Science Cafés located in popular pubs, and a central venue (”Science in the Streets”) with scientific workshops and expos, the EU information booth and the works of the Photo Competition. As Luxembourg is a small city, this range of activities will – for one day – have the entire city talk about only one thing: researchers. The various target groups throughout the country are the inhabitants of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, the foreign commuters… and a special focus is set on pupils and students, teachers and parents. The SCIPO project will involve researchers from both public and private Luxembourg research organisations. Through a public call for workshop/talk proposals, the focus will be put on “recruiting” local researchers for the event. However, as Luxembourg is a small country, foreign researchers (preferably from the Greater Region) will also be welcome. Finally, although coordinated and submitted by the FNR, the project reflects a multi-partnership aspect (coordinated by the FNR; main partner City of Luxembourg; participating researchers mainly from public and private Luxembourg research organisations).'
