'Background and Aims Since 2002 four scientific teams in Europe and Australia have been collaborating on Intelligent Decision Support Systems (IDSS) research and development. Our aim is to take the specific experience based knowledge representation developed in Australia and to integrate it with knowledge acquisition models and approaches researched by European teams which would result in a novel, more advanced and comprehensive approach to smart knowledge administration. The need for such research and development in knowledge based society is apparent. Our Vision and Proposal To maintain our collaboration efforts to reach the overall aim of our research we envisage the need for verification and integration of individual cases developed by the four separate teams: • Decisional DNA and Technological Trust Application for Multi-domain Knowledge Structure (Newcastle/Australia) • Semantic Enhancement of Virtual Engineering Applications (VICOMTech/Spain) • Smart Modeling Approach of IT Project Management for Small and Medium Companies (GUT, Poland) • Mortgage Market Knowledge-Based Modelling in the Changing, Economical Conditions (GUT, Poland) For integration purposes we propose an extensive and well planned exchange of researchers engaged in research and development of the above individual cases. Expected Results The proposed exchange would significantly support the collaboration that is required at this stage and which can be achieved only by immersing researchers in research environments developed by other teams. Our current collaboration that is based on e-mails and teleconferences is no longer sufficient. The proposed higher level collaboration would integrate the individual efforts into overall multi purpose smart knowledge administration platform as required in the age of global economy.'
An EU-funded project is developing an "intelligent" administrative system that can learn. The SASD project can capture, store, use and analyse information about an organisation's daily operation in order to help in the decision-making and knowledge sharing process.
An Australian project partner devised the technology, and the Polish-led 'Smart multipurpose knowledge administration environment for intelligent decision support systems development' (SASD) project is putting it into practice. SASD is applying the systems in three separate contexts, including information technology (IT) project management for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and an application for the Internet mortgage market.
SASD's main results have been completion of the stand-alone system by the Australian partner, and completion of the case applications by the European partners. This work has been presented by several PhD candidates.
The project contexts are test cases, and it is expected that the developed administrative and decision-support systems will have broader applications. This is something that should reduce business costs.
The SASD project is a combined effort between Australia and EU Member State Poland. The Australian partners devised the technology by building the platform based on the ETL mechanism of extracting, translating and loading. Partners in Poland, which is leading this EU-backed project, are responsible for the application of these "smart" technologies.
The main results have been presented at conferences and defended by several PhD candidates. One thesis proposed the combining of platforms for models development. Another thesis is based on the agent system for the information technology assessment. Another concerns the e-decisional community and the exchange of knowledge with an integrated knowledge sharing platform.
The creation of a new set of tools for software creation is also high on the list of results and positive outcomes. And, as can be expected, the development of administrative and decision-support systems will have broader applications. Ultimately, these systems will be capable of significantly reducing business costs.
