 Project objective

Today sectors like agriculture, forestry, transport, mining and construction require heavy duty vehicles that must outperform in highly demanding off-road conditions such as slope climbing and/or wet/slippery terrain. All while hauling or pulling large dead weight and facing obstacles bound to appear in un-paved roads. When performing these works, failure of the tractor to provide pulling force to the wheels leads to the convoy getting stuck. The solution is not a more powerful engine in the tractor head, the most efficient solution is to apply high torque at low speeds directly to the wheels. Black Bruin has developed the most efficient On-Demand wheel Drive solution, based on the integration of a unique wheel motor design. The result is an ODD system that can be integrated in trailers to power wheels, delivering traction force where is most needed, i.e. under the cargo. In this way, total power reduction of 30% and 20% fuel savings can be achieved, while increasing vehicle off-road / on-road use flexibility. Black Bruin is today’s third hydraulic LSHT motor supplier worldwide after giants like Bosch Rexroth and Poclain. We are a nearly 100-employee company, where 70% are employed in the manufacturing area and 30% in our offices. We count with a powerful portfolio of suppliers, research and academic institutions, consultants and engineering firms supporting our internal team. The new E-ODD system will allow us to move from a 15 M€ company to a 35 M€ company by dramatically extending the range of vehicle applications our product can be suited for.
