'EMInInn aims at assessing the environmental impacts associated with innovation.
In a first step EMInInn will assemble and set out coherently, on the one hand, macro-indicators and data of environmental impacts and, on the other hand, indicators and data to measure innovations. The definitions and delineations will be the basis for selecting appropriate analytical frameworks to operationalize assessments of environmental impacts associated with innovation on a macro scale. EMInInn will incorporate and integrate a number of advanced analytical approaches for the ex post assessment of the macro-environmental impacts of innovation. This methodology will be applied in different areas of technological innovation: • Energy sources and conversion technologies • Information and Communication Technologies • Transport • Built environment and buildings • Waste management
EMInInn aims at developing an analytical framework for assessing environmental impacts of established as well as emerging technologies. In selected cases options for scenarios to model burden-shifting and rebound effects will be explored.
EMInInn will strengthen the science-policy link. An advisory board with experts from different governance levels will be to advise the EMInInn researchers how to link the research and dissemination with ongoing and upcoming policy initiatives and research. A number of workshops and publications will allow interaction with experts, stakeholders and policy-makers. In that context EMInInn will address EU policies, which affect three major fields of environmental impact: • resources and waste, • energy and climate, as well as • land-use and biodiversity.
By improving environmental assessments of innovation as well as policy-oriented interactions and outputs, EMInInn will generate contributions for improving EU-policies for a transition towards a more sustainable Europe and thus contribute to the flagship initiatives for a Resource Efficient Europe and the Innovation Union.'
