 Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)

'Researchers’ Night events have been successfully organised in Cyprus by the Research Promotion Foundation (RPF) since 2006. RPF in collaboration with the major public and private research organisations aim to organise in the capital of Cyprus, Nicosia, on the 28th of September 2012 the Researchers’ Night event with even higher success than the previous years. The project proposal, entitled: “European Research in Cyprus - EURECY” incorporates the taking over of European Union Presidency by Cyprus in the second half of 2012 as well as the fact that 2012 is the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. The”EURECY” project consists of four (4) Work Packages, all to be lead and coordinated by the RPF who will have the overall administrative, legal, accounting and financial responsibilities. The project objectives is the attraction of a large number of people from the various age groups, without any age or scientific background limitation in order to meet with researchers in person, the enhancement of the public recognition of researchers and their work and the stimulation of the appreciation towards the positive impact of the researcher’s job in daily life of citizens, and finally the promotion of research careers, in particular among younger people, like school and university students. During the event, a balanced mix of public-oriented, “edutainment” activities will take place, like research exhibition and interactive hands-on-scientific experiments, competitions, the European Corner, performance of “magic-tricks explained by science, educational games for children and parents, art and science activities, music performance, “meet and greet” sessions, cocktail etc. The event will be hosted under the auspices of the Ministers of Education and Culture, Dr. G. Demosthenous, and Health, Dr. S. Malas. Both Ministers, before being appointed in August 2011, were high caliber career researchers in the field of Engineering and Genetics, respectively.'
